Hello guys.

I'm looking for a good CPU for Arma 3. I'm not really sure which one to take. But I'm either thinking of a lga2011 or lga1150. My first thought is the 4790k, but I dont know if you have any better suggestions, which will run arma 3 better, and if it will be worth it.

Not worth going to 2011 just for games. The 4 core 8 thread 4790k will perform exceptionally well, plus you can overclock it a ton more than the 4770k :D

For gaming, all you need is an i5.  Use the rest of your money on the best GPU you can afford, capped at a GTX 780 or R9 290.  The Ti and X versions respectively are a lot more money, for minimal performance gains.  After the 780 and 290 is when you start seeing diminishing returns on your investment.

Well actually I'm going for a super high end build, buying the new asus gtx 780 ti matrix

If you want to pay 40-50% more for the Ti to get only 10-15% increase in performance over the 780, by all means go for it.  At that price, there are better ways to get more performance.

Assuming he's getting quality memory and mobo for that 4790k, what else is there to spend $ on (if not Ti's)?

With his kind of budget, I would aim for Ultra 4k.  You can get 2x R9 290s for ~$700, which is what you would spend on 1 GTX 780Ti.

Your build is high end. Stretch your budget a little bit and get 2x 780s if you want nvidia,2x 290s if you have no problem going for AMD.

As you might have noticed I'm going for a red/black build with Asus ROG as its main theme, which is also my choice of the gear what I'm using.

I've thought about going sli gtx 780 poseidon.. But I'm really not sure.

Not poseidon. You buy the poseidon if you're gonna watercool your system. The normal asus 780 is red. MSI 780 twin frozr is red.

I'm just saying. SLI is more compelling with this build ;)

Would a 780 ti SLIbe a extreme overkill? :D

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-780-ti-review-benchmarks,3663-4.html found this, saying that a gtx 780 ti would run perfectly

Eventho the CPU used there is a 3970x, nor a 4790k.

Overkill is a matter of perspective.

NOTHING is overkill if you have money.if you are willing to spend for 2 780tis,really go for it.But make sure you have something more than a 60hz 1080p monitor because this system can handle so much more ;)

Depends on your resolution. As you can see those R9's are weak at x1080 but they start to pull ahead at x2160.

I got a BenQ XL2720, so should't be any problems taking some high frames :)

Which has a resolution of 1080. So if your looking for a single card solution a 780ti is fine.

Or you could go Crossfire 290's for a little more $ (on average) and overkill that 1080 (your 120hz monitor will use those frames (noticing it is a different story)) with much more added heat and power usage.

I think that my purpose of having a gtx 780 ti and 1080 will fit me pretty good. Not so much heta, lower powerusage than sli and will fit my build better

A 4790k doesnt make a system high-end. It's just pointless getting that over the i5, Arma 3 doesnt benefit of more than 2 cores so there's not much of a point spending 100$ for nothing? Same thing with a 780ti 100$ gone and people here forgot to mention that Arma 3 is cpu bound so there's zero difference between a 780 & 780ti heck a gtx 660 would perform the same. A maximus vii formula, another 150$ gone for nothing that just seems to be more of an aesthetically choice.

According to a few articles in Techspot and other websites, there's a huge different from the 660 to the 780.

Yes, Arma is required mainly CPU usage, buy a 4770k 4.0ghz + a 780 runs it 1920x1200 at 59FPS on very high. As I'm getting the 780 ti, I can imagine nothing but a better result than the 780. Also as I'm getting the 4790k, it will be improved further.

As I've stated previously, the maximus vii formula is nothing but an aesthetically choice for me.

As I've just been running Arma 3 real quick, I saw that I had 4 cores running.

Core1: 70-90% usage

core2: 50-60% usage

core3: 30-45% usage

core4: 30-45% usage.
