XFX 7850... Is 1gb ok for 1280x1024?

It will be perfect. The 7850 is a decent card for gaming at 1080p even so.

Is this the real life? Or is this just fantasy?

The GPU on that low of a card can't use more than 1gb of Vram as it's not powerful enough.

That's crap right there. Just utter crap.

I trust the professional review publications that actually bench marked and reviewed the 1GB HD 7850 and that's why I bought one and can say that they are right and your opinion in misinformed and lacking real substance.

I would recommend the 2GB model purely for the sake of futureproofing, at 1080p some new games do hit the end of the frame buffer and you should consider the possibility of you upgrading your monitor in future, if you get a 1GB model sure your games will be almost certainly playable at 1080p however it is nice to have a bit of space to breathe.

Unfortunately the HD 7850 core will power out before more than 1gig Vram is used. You are wrong and basing your opinion on misconceptions about Vram. Vram is only as useful  as the GPU core performance can provide.

thats not strictly true, you can turn settings down and use the vram for aa. Some games look better at medium settings with aa than at high with no aa. Therefore core is not fully utilized and the vram is playing a part

FALSE! What is more powerful? A 560 Ti or a 7850? The answer is 7850. And yet, playing Tomb Raider, I've used more than 1GB of my 560 Ti's total VRAM. In fact, I used 1.3GB. Playing Crysis 2 took it up to almost 2GB. Please...you're misinformed. The 7850 has plenty of power to take advantage of 2GB of VRAM.

so it uses 1.6gb vram at 2xaa (presuming msaa) what about 8x msaa?

This isn't an opinion. It's a fact that Tomb Raider was using more than 1GB of VRAM, and that the 7850 is more powerful than a 560 Ti. If the 560 Ti can handle over 1GB of VRAM, so should a 7850.

No the facts are the links I posted to. They are the only PROFESSIONAL reviewers that tested and bench marked the 1GB HD 7850. You did not test out the 1GB HD 7850. Your Opinions on how you think Vram works does not affect how the HD 7850 performed when tested by the professional reviewers.

Dude seriously? The 560 Ti can use more than 1GB of VRAM! The 7850 is more powerful! It should be able to handle more than 1GB of VRAM.

You could have 8gb vram on a 7950 it would help with aa and high res, nothing to do with the core clockspeed, i think what g.freeman means is its not fast enough for there to be any point? A bit like yeah 7970 supports 4k but its probably gona be so slow by then that its 3gb would be hardly worth having.
