Help me with how to study?

Recon-UK

Might seem a silly question, but i was never really the most academic achiever, though i do hold a respectable level of education.

I never did well in school which was seperate from my learning ability... rough time.

Anyway, i re-did my Maths and English in the Army, i did up to NVQ Level 2 which is the equivalent to GCSE A i think.

I was strong at Science and design and technology, also at English.

I struggle with maths quite a bit though, i cannot reel it off like i can with Science or English when it comes to an equation.

It is going to be hard to get me to study, but i would love to freshen my mind, so any tips on how to study with no books? i mean i have internet...

Cheers for any help :)

study some, rest, study more, rest, study more rest, and dont just read, actually do and think about what you are doing, then rest some more, caffeine after studying helps memory retention

proven by science to work better than most other forms of studying, but its still a personal thing, also make sure its quiet, music and such are not good

I might not be a student or in a education frame of mind, but i know that over exposure to one thing 24/7 is not healthy :P

Learn how to do a certain thing, For example integration. Then find questions on that topic and practice them over and over again. If you make a  mistake note down what the mistake was and try another question. Sooner or later you will start getting a lot right.

What do you want to do better in?

Maths? Buy Maths books and teach yourself how to do simple things like factorising quadratics. Once you learn Maths, the skill never leaves you, it's simple logic.

Science? Download past papers and mark schemes and read through them. Also, buy revision guides as they are really helpful for focus as they have condensed information in a digestible manner, Science textbooks feature pages and pages of drivel.

Main focus is maths, i mentioned in the OP that is my weak spot, not saying i know everything in English and Science, i guess an overall brain workout is a good thing in all subjects to be fair.

Do you know anywhere i can buy Ebooks for education purposes? Amazon maybe?

Ughh I hate math too... I get enough of it in one day.

Amazon should have what your looking, I prefer having the book physically in my hand if possible though.

Linked to what thunderjolt said, once you learn a topic, try doing some past papers from exam boards in that topic until you can do it. If you can do exam questions, then any task based off that, that you're set in a job should be a breeze. It's how I revised for my AS levels this year, and it served me well (I hope, although core 2 was horrible)

Well, to be honest, I'd buy a range of things, not just one as you will get bored out of your mind.

Books Audiobooks, video lectures, tutoring, you name it, you can do it.

I attended the Higher Education Conference at Liverpool University today and in every lecture, they kept re-iterating that you really have to enjoy what you are doing, so if you find it difficult, the chances are that you don't need to be doing it. It seems to me that you could do well in Maths, just don't waste your time doing pointless things.

On another, related note, did you redo your GCSE Maths just a few weeks ago?

I re-sat my Maths and English in 2008 in Phase 2 training.

NVQ is both practical and theory i believe.

Found some info about an NVQ based qualification.

What is an NVQ?

An NVQ is a National Vocational Qualification. It is a work-based qualification designed to measure competence in a professional role.

An NVQ is different from a traditional taught course as it requires you to show what you currently do and how you have the underpinning knowledge necessary to do your work, as opposed to teaching and testing you on new knowledge. To prove their competence, candidates collect evidence from their workplace according to the National Occupational Standard (NOS) of the NVQ.

What qualifications are equivalent to an NVQ?
Because NVQs are work-based qualifications, it is difficult to give exact academic equivalents. However, as a guide:

• Level 3 NVQ - BTEC National Certificate or Diploma
• Level 4 NVQ - BTEC Higher National Certificate or Diploma
• Level 5 NVQ - First degree or professional qualification
