PSA: The Widespread Rumors About the 6300 not Bottle-Necking High-End Cards is Simply Not True.

Some of you may have seen the multiple threads I've made about my new R9 290 not working properly over the last couple weeks. After weeks of forum posts I wasn't getting anywhere so I sent it back to the supplier who tested it and found no problem. So then I paid someone to look at my computer and they found after trying a 8350 it worked fine. Some older games will be fine with a 6300/290 combination but the newer stuff just runs like a potato. Please stop saying 290/780s will work fine with a 6300!

Absolutely!!!!

 

For example Anandtech ran it with a 680, the 6300 pulled in respectable numbers not far off the 8350 (obviously beaten by i5 and i7s though)

Well all i can say is... my 290 runs fine with my 8320.

 

My 780Ti's run fine with my 4770k.

 

My 5850 runs fine with my 5ghz 2500k in emulation.

 

 

Who buys a 6300 with the i3 out? and dat new Pentium is just SEX!

I did OC the 6300 to 4.3 but it only made a slight improvement.

seriously, i disable core 0 and 1 effectively turning my cpu into a 6300 and i notice no difference, this is in bf3, bioshock infinate,world of tanks, payday 2, minecraft, skyrim, ets2, simcity, bf4, automation and so on.

hes effectively got a 6350 lol, (3.9ghz with 4.2 turbo) maybe hes running a 4+1 vrm..

oh and id totally have a 6300 over an i3, 6 integer units vs 2,, overclocking over no overclocking for the same price? new pentiums should be great for all those single threaded games and apps intel fanboys love so much, noone will ever need to buy an i3/i5/i7 ever again.

Okay. Firstly, every CPU is a bottleneck of a varying degree in any system. All that matters is the extent to which the CPU is bottle-necking other components. The 6300, when over-clocked, serves perfectly well for gaming with any GPU, sure, the GPU won't reach its full potential with that processor, but the same can be said with an i5 or even an i7.

It all depends on whether you're happy with the performance or not. My current system, for example, would benefit slightly from running a 4930k and a socket 2011 board where I wouldn't be bottlenecked by the number of PCI-e lanes. I'm not investing in that platform, simply because I know I don't need that for gaming.

The 6300 is practically neck and neck with the i3 except gaming, where the i3 tends to win out in single thread, the 6300 does beat the i3 in work loads though.
