IPS panel or TN panel?

Go to solution Solved by WoodenMarker,

Yes, the difference is noticeable between 60 and 120hz. For most, the difference between IPS and TN is more apparent.

The colors of the TN panel aren't utter crap but they don't compare well to any decent IPS display.

Unless you really need the extra frames, going IPS is generally better.

Hi everyone

Im currently getting a new monitor, but im stuck with the question: Should i get TN Panel like the -

BenQ 27" 3D LED XL2720Z

Or should i get an IPS display panel like the -

Asus 27" LED MX279H

What i really like about the Asus one, is that its an ultrawide monitor, which will give you a nice gaming experience. It would also be smart for video and photo editing as it is an IPS display.

What i really like about the Benq monitor, is that it has 144hz refreshrate, so the picture should be much smoother. It should be better for gaming.

So the question is, can you tell the difference between 60hz and 120hz?? can you tell the difference between a TN panel and an IPS panel? Is the colors on the TN panel display, that bad? Or are the okay? Im still really confused, but anything would be appreciated. Thanks.

Not at all... Some people value refresh rate over color reproduction. I am not one of those people, but that doesn't make it a bad/wrong choice.

True, I just love my colors though.

I don't recommend 27" unless it's 1440p.

ok everyone, thanks for all the answers ;)  But i have two more questions, before i'll go and buy a new monitor. What do you think is the biggest difference? 60 hz compared to 120hz?? or the sharpness on an IPS panel, compared to the TN (the quality) Thank you everyone :)

I answered this above already but I'll restate it.

For most people, the difference between IPS and TN is more apparent than the difference between 60 and 120hz.

Ok, i think i will go with the IPS one then ;) But arent there a single one of you, who would go for a TN panel?? are they that shit??

While I do like IPS panels more, there are good options for TN panels.  For example, the BenQ XL2420TE has a good one.

Yeah, know. But are the colors and the sharpness on the benq acceptable?? Or is it like this one??

Paraphrasing what Linus said, the color accuracy and depth are among the best in a TN Panel. When looking straight on, yes it'll be acceptable. At an angle, I'm not so sure about as I do not own the monitor, but if it's like any other TN, the viewing angles and color reproduction won't be as great as an IPS monitor. Although it still has the same problems as a TN panel, it is less prominent and is probably one the best TN monitor that I can think of.
