Modding an r9 290 Tri-x

VintageCake

Thinking about removing that piss yellow shroud that sits under the first, metal shroud and spray-painting it red.

How would i go about to do this? I'm aware that this will break the warranty with sapphire.

Material is some sort of hard plastic, yellow down to the core.

So do you guys think i'd be better off just trying to get a hold of an identical pastic shroud but made with red plastic, or do you think spray painting would be possible and wouldn't look like crap?

Trying to match the NZXT H440 red/black.

Also thinking about putting one of these http://www.coldzero.eu/amd/1681-coldzero-backplate-r9-290-1.html on my card as well.

Thanks for any help.

Spray painting is the best option. It will obviously void the warranty, but any mod will do that. Just follow someone's tutorial on removing the shroud and spray paint it.

Or.. You could do something crazy like watercool your system and put a sexy EK waterblock on it.  :P

I have a very limited budget.... even though i managed to get a hold of an r9 290.

I'm just trying to make the best of what i have.

Would an EK backplate work without the waterblock? Remember reading on their site that it doesn't work as a standalone unit.

As long as the nearby heat doesn't damage the paint it should work. And if you can get a spray paint that's alcohol soluble you'd be able to get the card back to looking like the warranty was never void.
