How reliable is FurMark/Furmark 2 artifacts scanner? (GTX 980 HoF)

Hi.

I just got this card, which seems to work fine. However both versions of Furmark only go up with the artifacts scanner.

Fumark isn't only not reliable it's also not advisable, especially with an older card like yours which may not have the protections driver side as newer cards ... That's all you need to know about this "benchmark".... manufacturers actually put in the effort to have protections against it in their drivers. A known fact, at least since a decade.

Try running firestrike benchmark, if it can run that it's probably fine.

GTX980 isnt that level of "older card", pretty much every GPU i have going back to my HD5770 will run furmark 24/7 without any sort of serious issues.

now... as for it's usefulness.. i agree with you there to a degree. it's pretty much just a tool to get your GPU as hot as it'll go, and that's about it.

But the problem with older cards specifically is that the abnormal higher temps may break solder joints etc that would have been otherwise still holding up...

Basically it's literally "asking for it" hence neither useful nor advisable.

I've been using the card for a few days and it has yet to freeze my PC, shut down, display artifacts etc.

However, every instance of FurMark or FurMark 2 still counts up the "artifacts" that I can't even see.

Should I return it? I have until the 5th of February.
