Name of Brand: ASUS

Description of your issue: I have had a failure with what I believe is my ASUS Stix motherboard for some time. After trying a new CPU

I came to the conclusion that it was definitely my motherboard. My fear the whole time on this was I was told ASUS will send me an rma email saying they found a scratch somewhere and it would cost the MSRP of the board to fix it. I made sure to take stellar pictures of the board before shipping and I also put the board in an anti stactic motherboard sleve before shipping it. My RMA got changed to "exchanging the product" to me getting an email stating exactly what everyone said would happen. Apparently they found a scratch that is going to cost $352.13 to fix. Its weird thats pretty much the MSRP and that they found it after saying it needs to be replaced. Its also crazy that they do this to what seems like everyone.

I will gladly post pictures of my board when I can downsize them. I made sure they were 200mp clear pictures so they are over the file size allowed.

Have you tried solving your issue through the brand's customer support channel? If so, what was the result?

Yes, that I owe them the cost of a new board.

What would an ideal resolution of your issue look like?

For them to stop being shady, especially when you buy high-end products. The point of buying the high-end products is so you don't have to worry about this.

Welcome to the forums!
That's a HUGE bummer. You *could* try fighting them on this, but it will take time, be aggravating, and is unlikely to actually work. Sadly, the best bet for your sanity is to bite the bullet, move on, buy a new (nonASUS) mobo, and be vocal about how heinous their practices are.

TBH, if I'm too lazy, which is often the case, to open the pics in Paint.net and re-save them as lower res, I will instead just screenshot them and post those pics. Win+Shift+S is bae

I only buy ROG boards, for the last 20 years or so.. have never needed their RMA..

I would imagine it was more than a scratch.

Pictures of the motherboard are posted and a direct quote from them is "scratch" I'm not even the only person I personally know that has had this exact issue with them.

I did not want to download a massive photo that is not even good quality.

Looks like that scratch is right across some traces.

Less than 20mb and 200m idk how that's a "massive" file or how thats bad quality i can literally zoom and read the fine detail. The only thing I see on it is thermal paste.

They are indeed of poor quality. A 200MP camera and huge file size don't mean much when the basics are ignored, such as:

- Proper lighting (don't shoot indoors without sufficient light, and never point the light directly at the camera).

- Keeping the camera steady (avoid shaking the camera or the object you're photographing).

- Don't crop your subject.

- Focus, and also make sure the lens is clean.

And as for your phone, it's destroying fine details with excessive noise reduction and sharpening:

Aquarel font? Looks like some crap AI upscaler was used as well for postproecessing.
Freeze frame from a random YT video is better:

Fine details, like traces:

are smeared, good luck figuring out anyhting from this photo.

PS: I dislike Asus so much that I won’t be buying anything from them for a long, long time... maybe never again. And I’m advising anyone who’ll listen to steer clear of their products. So, just being objective: your photos... they’re not good.

The focus and movement are the most important things when it comes to pictures like this, not the file size and megapixels (well they are, but also not).

You could have a gigapixel photo of a person, but it does no good if for every 100x100 pixels only gives you an equivalent of 1 x 1 pixel resolution...looks like motion was introduced along with maybe incorrect focus.  The backside image is definitely a terrible shot in that it was take at an angle so you won't be able to get the correct focus at the distance you took the photo from.  So yea, MP isn't everything, and those photos weren't "stellar".

As for the photos you posted, it's not focused enough to identify all the traces and to see if lets say you scratched a trace.  While I don't like Asus, if the "scratch" actually is across a trace I can potentially agree that it could be an issue.  With that said as well even with the unfocused picture of the front there is enough things that has me wondering what it is.

Like look at the pictures attached, and that doesn't include stuff that might be thermal paste...and this was just at a very quick glance....picture c looks actually like a scratch along a trace...and the back which should have a bunch more traces you can't see because it's too blurry...but I see at least 3 white bits on the back of the motherboard that could potentially be scratches (and specifically along the trace area).  Are they scratches?  Not sure, but it's enough for me to say that I am not sure if Asus is in the wrong on this one.

the unfortunate thing about this is this is pretty much par for the course with RMA's to any major hardware brand.

when i'm buying hardware, i make sure to buy from a retailer that does in house warranty handling. (instead of just telling you to deck it out with asus)
