Hello All,

I bought the LG 32GS95U-B 4k monitor and now i need to upgrade my GPU to run games at normal FPS rate.

I'm usually playing games like Destiny 2, Dota 2, Warzone and a souls game here and there.

Not looking for crazy numbers, but would like to be stable around 90-100 FPS.

I'm trying to avoid going to the 5080 cards due to not having enough ram for future proofing.

My options as i see them are : Wait for the 5080 Super or get something cheaper like 5070 TI/ 9070 XT.

What GPU Should i go with ?

Specs:

CPU:5800x3D

Ram: 32GB 3600MHZ

MB: Aorus Elite X570

Current GPU: Asus Tuf 10GB 3080.

PSU:850W

TIA!

This is what a 5080 can do in Warzone at 4k max settings

Common build advice:

1) Buy the cheapest (well reviewed) motherboard that has the features you need. Paying more typically only gets you features you won’t use. 2) only get as much RAM as you need, getting more won’t (typically) make your PC faster. 3) While I recommend getting an NVMe drive, you don’t need to splurge for an expensive drive with DRam cache, DRamless drives are fine for gamers. 4) paying for looks is fine, just don’t break the bank. 5) Tower coolers are usually good enough, unless you go top tier Intel or plan on OCing. 6) OCing is a dead meme, you probably shouldn’t bother. 7) "Bottlenecks" rarely matter and "Future-proofing" is a myth. 8) AIOs don't noticeably improve performance past 240mm and don't improve at all past 360mm. 9) RTFM.

future proofing

IMO, having done the AAA 4K thing for over two years now, 5080 minimum. 5080 Super if you can wait. I don't personally think I would enjoy anything slower than my 4090, at least not by that much. If you're going to spend all the money for the extravagance of 4K gaming, its kinda silly to do it half-assed and not be able to run everything cranked to 11.

5070 Ti isn't that far behind 5080 anyway. In my gaming with 5070 Ti, which I do at 4k and my sweet spot range is around 60-100fps, I find basically for more modern demanding games expect to use upscaling if you wish to remain at a higher preset. In one game that supports FG and wasn't latency sensitive, I used 2x mode as I didn't find the additional frames above that to be useful.

can you not afford a 5090 or a used 4090?

If you're worried about 16GB future proofing, you're in the wrong universe.  You're replacing a 3080, you'll replace a 5090 in 3-4 years again regardless of VRAM.

It's not about doing it half assed, it's more of a principle not buying the HALF ASSED 5080 cards.

I don't feel that the price tag is right and from what I've read they're not the best cards.

I could buy a 5090 and be done for a while, but i don't feel the need for that card.

Money is not the problem, i just don't see the reason for paying so much more money for something that i will not use to it's best.

I cringed (hard) at $1500 for 3090 and $1800 for 4090 but I'm glad I made the jump given how much I put these cards to use. 5090 though.. I just can't stomach $3000 so i'm right there with you. Its a step too far. We'll see what a 6080 looks like.

Then go with the 5070Ti, with the frame gen it'll do 4K in those titles well enough.

i got my 3080 ASUS Tuff for 729$ USD.

If i had bought the 3090 I'd probably would not be even writing this post. I'm just feeling the need for more ram and power, feels like my computer is dying during demanding times of some games.

Is it a 3080 10GB?  Buddy with 4K had one, and we compared my 7900XTX at 1440p UW vs his setup sorta.   Especially in Ark Ascended, he was hitting the VRAM limit and his GPU would actually freeze for a full half second, even seeing it in Task Manager.

With the 9800X3D and 5080 he's wide open again.  Playing Dune to almost 200 FPS.

So I figure the 5070Ti will be good enough for decent 4K as you state. You'll get more than 25%, especially with DLSS and Multi.

I will say I now know 2 people with 5070Ti's that play at 4K and they certainly have to lean into DLSS and FG a bit further but they can play everything out today. I just don't see that being a good long term solution unless you just plan to upgrade again in 2 years.

Yes, It's the 10GB version. I don't get freezes, just stuttering that drives me insane.

I can get 5070Ti for a good price from a friend of mine.

I think I'm going to try and cruise till AM6 platform and upgrade the whole thing.

Can't find many benchmarks with AM4 anywhere.

With modern AAA games, if you're still on AM4 thats going to be a limiting factor as more games come out. I'm already feeling it with 7800x3D and 4090. Even 5800x3D is falling behind. But yet, a 5070Ti is faster than a 3080 in general.

PSU:850W

TIA!

for me the only cards that are "good" for 4k are the 5090,4090, 5080,4080 super and the yet released 5080 super and 9090 xt

5080 is a terrible card for the price unless u can grab one for about 1k, so it's between a 5070ti for 800 or a 5090 for 2500, ur call.

Would it perform better than my 3080 ? i'll be ok if i get like 20%-25% more.

In GPU terms it is a good step up. I went from 4070 to 5070 Ti at 4k, and it allowed me to use higher settings than before. 4070 is roughly comparable to 3080 in perf.

16GB vram is more than enough for 4k currently and for a few years more, you don't need 24GB

I use my 4070Ti for 4K, I am happy with 60fps.. mostly because that is what my TV does lol.
