Hi everyone,

I have a question about remote desktop connections. I recently started a new job and I'm unable to do a remote desktop connection from my gaming desktop to my work laptop. At my previous job I would connect my laptop to their VPN and start a remote desktop session from my rig; It was the easiest and preferred way of working from home while getting to use my normal setup. At this new company, I am unable to do. I can make an initial connection to the work laptop but when I try and login at the welcome screen, it tells me that I need to be added to the remote desktop users group. I contacted our IT and they are claiming remoting into you work PC from another PC is not allowed. I am by no means an IT or security expert; so my first question is there a real reason for this? And my second question; what are some better alternatives. I'm assuming application such as Mouse without Borders will not work either because I've noticed the laptop cannot be pinged while connected to my home network. I'm also not a big fan of getting a KVM because I'm not sure how that would affect my gaming experience when I'm not working. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

And the conversation ends there, we cannot assist in bypassing company security policies (of which not wanting non-company hardware interacting with their property is completely acceptable).

Any reason why you need to remote to your work laptop at home from your own personal PC? Your companies IT dept says remote desktop connection is not allowed so, that's the end of that.

So I can use two monitors instead of the laptop screen.

Yeah, get one.  They're cheap as hell.

I use one when I bring my laptoo home.

Any double input, 1 monitor setup works great since that's what you have.

Don't spend more than $30.

Why not just plug the monitors into the Laptop?

And shouldn't work pay for extra monitors if there needed?

Not really a place to setup a desk with some more monitors. Is there a close post button somewhere?

Just to play devils advocate for a second (and he's got two monitors from the sounds of it), depending on the displays being used a KVM suitable for to stick between his primary machine and his monitors won't necessarily be $30. I haven't even bothered as I'd need something that will pass HDMI 2.1 4K120 w/ VRR & 12-bit color for one display and DP1.4 1440p165 10-bit for the other flawlessly.

I'd like to get something cheap and problem free for my work laptop but I just don't think that exists without spending big money.

The level1 ones probably work; but yes I would look for something that cost more than $30.

Ahh, I read it as he had duals at work and a single at his gaming machine at home.

Thanks for clarification.

What I do the get around that problem, is my monitors have multiple inputs. So I just switch the inputs when I need to use the other computer. I have a USB Switcher that can switch USB devices (Keyboard and Mouse) between each of those machines. USB Switcher was maybe $30.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
