First built my PC in August 2021, since then I upgraded my hardware so much that literally the only part still in the PC from the original 2021 build is the NVME SSD. Call it the PC of Theseus.

 

Also call it about 35 years old in PC years.

Which component defines the age of the PC ? 

Board and CPU are about 6 years old. 
GPU is 4.5 years old
Case is 3.5 years old

It is possible to run a PC without a case and GPU so I would probably say the CPU and Board defines the age.

I'd say 6 years old at this point as the CPU and GPU are ancient. 

 

I've been meaning to upgrade for a while now. At this point my laptop and NAS have faster CPUs and... I don't really game anymore.

Case is 11 years old but the rest is new-ish from 2020 so I picked 5 years, not replacing it until it's obsolete enough that browsers won't work anymore.

Machine prior to that was still a 4th gen intel DDR3 machine, and the HD and GPU were pulled from that for the above machine, and dates back to NCIX.

 

There is a 7th gen and 9th gen intel laptop in between, but these are not daily drivers, just used when travelling. So the average is about 3 years, even if I stuck to the older daily driver.

My Windows desktop is not too old, Ryzen 5900X and an RTX 3060 Ti, but I have a newer MacBook as a portable machine.

Gaming PC: Oldest components from and built in 2018. Newest component from 2025.

I bought my PC as a pre-built Acer Aspire M1930 on 10 May 2012, so since yesterday my PC is 13 years old... Though from that PC the only things left to this day are the motherboard, one SATA cable and the DVD drive. And as for software still using Windows 7 which I installed when I bought the PC, though nowadays dual-boot with Windows 11. And while I didn't know much about PCs back then (I was 13, so I've had this PC for half of my life) the more I learnt and when I could afford it I would upgrade the PC over the years. Some time ago bought an Asus motherboard, Ryzen 7 5700x, 32GB DDR4 and RTX3060 12GB to upgrade my PC once again, but the new parts are just sitting in their boxes for now, don't need to change anything and don't have time to do it either.

abit over year , since i bought the m/b and cpu last year  around Jan/Feb ..so probably half a system ? ram psu casing etc , all re-using the old parts

The only time I heard of one of my friends 'finding something cool on the side of the road', years later he admitted he just stole it. I don't see someone just throwing away a 2000-series RTX GPU. These GPUs were a literal goldmine for their whole lifetime.

 

As for my PC, it's a 'ship of theseus' situation. I never completely replaced it in the last 10 years or so, but every individual part has been replaced at least once. So is it still the same PC or is it a new one the moment I replaced the last component that was a part of the initial build?

Most of my current PC build is two years old. Some parts of it, like the two optical drives and the backup HDD are older. they came from a previous build.

Oldest part is Noctua U14S from 2013, with 2nd fan added 2016. And it has been in use almost whole time since. If you think about it, thats some 14k hours on that original fan. 2nd oldest part is WD Black 2Tb from 2014. Newest part is mobo which I bricked during some maintanance. Platform upgrade was made 2 years ago from 4770K to Ryzen 7600X.

Hard to tell as its always evolving. oldest part is the 4080 (2.5 years) and newest is 9800x3d (2ish months).

 

Newest build is 0 days.  Parts are enroute

My laptop is a ThinkPad P52, so about 7 years old, and it suits my needs perfectly.

well i use NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GX2

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600

with 8g ram 

and silcon power ssd then i visit my grandparents home.

i dont complain since i play older games and it has no issues with them.

then old computer works i dont see any reason why it should be thrown away and its not my main pc what i use

My signature rig is now mostly gaming and heavy tasks.  I'm now days in on a Minisforum HX 370.

This is my setup since 2017, this year I'm doing a full upgrade .. going amd 9800x3d .. half of my futur build is already bought .. can't wait to build it :)
