780 to 290X

I wouldn't bother, the gain wouldn't be a great deal and the 780 is a beast card mate. Just save your money.

I would take a 290x over a GTX 780 BUT as you have a 780 I wouldn't upgrade to a 290x.

Then go for it. That's worth it as long as you know that the 290x will be working perfectly and has not been damaged

I wouldn't bother, save money and pick between the next two flaghships if you feel like upgrading.

I'd say stick with your 780. Even if you only need to pay $50 more it's not really worth it because Nvidia cards have better resale value and I doubt you're needing more FPS. 

If you wanna know my opinion on the 290x direct cuii OC lemme know, I've got one ordered that should be coming this week .

Don't you dare abandon physX!  Seriously you have a smoking hot 780 which delivers awesome performance plus has physX.  Also MSI ... uh no ... cuz they didn't behave and listen to Nvidia when they should have.  I will never trust them.

The only main difference is the vram, still not enough to play at 4k but at 1440p it's going to make a difference so it's up to you

Wouldn't upgrade. It's a very small performance improvement. Upgrading from within the R9 290, R9 290X, GTX 780 and GTX 780 Ti is moot point. It's like upgrading from a Porsche 911 or Ferrari 458 to a McLaren 650S. The McLaren is faster, but not by considerable margin. They're all still high-end performance cars.

Only if you find R9 290X really cheap, and can cash in on the 780. 

 

I abandoned/sold my 780 Classified after finding a used 290X for $300, turning a profit. 

 

I used the extra money towards water cooling, and couldn't be any happier.

No, you can't. The 290x is more on par with the 780 Ti than the 780. 

The 780 contends with the 290.

Got a great deal on the LIGHTNING 780 so I went with it. Not so much for better performance because even though it OC's more its only like 5fps but rather the looks of the card. The LIGHTNING matches my MPOWER and once I paint the shroud on the LIGHTNING white the two will look great together!!!
