No, the caucus of the liberal/national coalition held the party to a universal no, the Labor party is a bit more forward, they went with a conscience vote. The national party is very conservative and will hold back the majority of the Liberal party on gay marriage (my local member is pro gay marriage, but is in the minority of her party). The only major party that supports gay marriage is the Greens.

He's just checking if people around the world look at their allies' politics at all. Relax. Barrack Obama influences Australians almost zip apart from a one sided free trade agreement, but we do know about him.

I did not know who he was, I googled him after voting. I tend not to pay a huge amount of attention to foreign politics.
