We all know what it means and we know why they haven't updated it. Don't be thick, now.

Honestly, X would be have been a perfectly fine name for a social platform, if the branding of Twitter didn't already exist. Twitter is so imbedded in the national psyche that it's completely reasonable to continue to call it by the former name. It for all intents and purposes, the platform created micro-blogging and termed it to where it is now ubiquitous in common parlance.

"I saw a post on X the other day." Nah. Sounds weird and people will look at you weird if you say that. "I saw a tweet the other day" is so much more natural.

Tweet tweet.

In my opinion, Twitter IS still around, I use it every day, I absolutely refuse to call it by its current one letter name, stupidest name change in human history.

Elon keeps using deadnames, so he should have no reason to protest using x's dead name of 'twitter'.

In all seriousness, people are just lazy and nobody important cares about 'x'

Twitter will always be a Twitter.  It was born a twtiter, raised a twitter it only has one X.   I will deadname Twitter as long as Elon deadnames his daughter at a minimum.   Good on LMG for doing likewise.

Step 1: Go to your browser

Step 2: Enter www.twitter.com

Step 3: Hit enter

Step 4: Observe if a social media platform is appearing

I know there are some steps involved, but you got this.

This wasn't really intended to start an argument over whether "X" should be called by it's official name or a name that the community deems more appropriate, "Twitter".

But the intention is to market social media accounts on a platform, and that platforms official name is "X", regardless of our opinions on the name. Just strange to me.

I believe LTT's reasoning for not updating is it likely just "updating the name of the social platform on our banner isn't super high on our list of priorities", and not an opinion of "i'll never call it x" such as that which is being illustrated here.

I personally don't care in the slightest if LTT uses "Twitter" or "X" (although it is becoming apparent that a lot of people here care very much about it.) But, for someone unfamiliar with the platform (albeit unlikely), or someone like me who isn't so strongly opinionated on the naming of a social platform, it seems confusing to use an old name that's no longer the official name of the platform.

X isn't unique enough and it sounds weird, and twitter clearly and always refer to a very specific social media platform and nothing else. And you can see "tweet" but what the hell is a "x post" ???

There in is the problem. X is a brand problem

"x dot com" the platform is harder to say than "twitter"

"xhitter" sounds like "sh*tter", 'xpost" already means cross-post in EVERY other context.

xxx = porn

"x" sounds like "ecks" which sounds like "sex"

"x users" sounds like "ex-users"

calling it X leads to more confusion than just calling it "twitter" or "the site formally known as twitter"

At least Facebook (not "meta",  which is also a branding problem of trying to own the word 'meta' and sounds too close too 'mega' to be meaningful) sounds like brand and people when you talk about facebook you are talking about facebook. If you talk about "x" people don't know what you are talking about, ever. You could be talking about the x social media site, you could be talking about sex, you could be talking about porn, you could be talking about alcolhol, you could be talking about "X" variable in algebra and formulas. And most importantly you can not own a single letter of the alphabet (there's another thing that is a stupid brand, Google calling itself alphabet.)

TIL the X's often seen on moonshine bottles in old cartoons, etc. represent the amount of runnings, or how many times it was distilled. : r/todayilearned

BTW, a single X denotes the weakest alcohol.

This is just the same trend we've been using forever. We call Google and every service offered by alphabet, "google". We call Facebook, not Meta. And we will continue to call 'x' the twitter site even if it's stripped all twitter's branding from it, because it is still twitter, and Elon destroyed billions of dollars in branding and marketing by renaming it. Not to mention many of the changes made to the site make it even less useful than it was before, doing every single stupid thing news corp did to myspace in the process.

It's kind of like "memo to the next social media company that pops off", that your live or die by marketing alone. Predecessors to X and facebook were myspace, opendiary, livejournal (and several forks of it,), before twitter and tumblr supplanted livejournal's behavior. Discord is now doing that to twitter-instagram-tiktok types of channels. Discord is just an evolution of IRC, which is what Twitch, Skype, and Teams are all replicating.

Like instead of acquiring/merging a bunch of different services, these companies should be focused on one service they do well, and implementing a "good-enough" copy of the other services. Remember "Google One"? Remember that failed SSO and social media service that Google killed off pretty quick? You know why people didn't like it?

Because Google has a terrible track record of supporting things. People were just not interested in using Google as social media. So Google killed all these teams-like and discord-like services, and then started rolling them into youtube, where they're actually useful and where the actual eyeballs are. That's where those should have been from the beginning. But Youtube/Google still fundamentally does not understand how communities work, and you can see this when marketing drones talk about youtube only in the context of making money.

People are on twitch, because they have real time interaction with their streamer. People are on twitch because they don't get muted when they sound like Shakira, or any other singer.

But X? Who is looking for stuff on twitter? Nobody. It's completely useless. It only ever existed as a way to aggregate the last few days of earth news and entertainment. Nobody can have a conversation there, because it's fundamentally impossible to do so since the posts appear out of order, and the person who makes the original post can only see 100 replies before the rest are just lost. You as an X user, exist only to inflate people's egos, and nothing more.

If you have an answer, why did you ask the question in the first place? Also, just so you can have even more not-so-strong opinions on it, they still label their Twitter account as a Twitter account on Twitter.

Mislabeling Twitter is a sort of revenge move as they allow (and even encourage)misgendering trans people.

Again, I'm not trying to start an argument over the content of the platform, the quality of the platform, the stance of the platform, or anything in between.

But if LTT is linking to a platform, it seems strange not to use the official name of that platform.

You seem to care about this a lot. Why?

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.
