Trapped in...the quote?

Go to solution Solved by colonel_mortis,

Weird, this did used to work. I've submitted a bug report to the forum software devs, with a proposed fix, but it's likely to take several months at best before that fix makes its way back here.

Browser, version and OS: Firefox 130.0 (64-bit), Xubuntu

Steps to reproduce/what were you doing before it happened? I quoted someone then bumped backspace and my cursor moved into the quoted section of text

What happened? The cursor was trapped in the quoted section and when I click or arrow key to leave it stays there.

What did you expect to happen? Not have the cursor stuck in the quote and be able to type above or below it like normal.

Link to a page where it happened, if applicable:

Screenshots of the issue, if applicable:

Any other relevant details: This has happened a few times before, I had to delete everything, discard the post, refresh the page, and start over.

If it's a cloudflare error, what was the ray ID from the bottom of the error page?

Double pressing enter will move your cursor to a new line below the text box.

The text editor tools has an undo button (left facing arrow button). You can undo the last action to revert back to before you deleted the line below the quote box. On desktop you can also press control + z to undo.

Pressing the trash can icon in the editor tools will clear the editor. You shouldn't need to refresh the page.

To fix your post click the edit button under the post. Place your cursor at the end of the text in the quote box. Double press enter to create a new text line under the box. You can then cut and paste your text below the quote box.

Alternatively hit the trash can button to clear the editor and then quote the post again and type your message.

Double enter just gives me 2 lines inside the quote box. I think it has to do with the quote box being the lowest element in the typing area. There's nowhere for the cursor to jump out to beneath the quote. I was able to quote you below, delete the blank space under the quote box to jump the cursor into the box, then double enter just made 2 lines in the box and the cursor stayed in the box. Are you able to duplicate this behavior?

Clear editor button works, not sure what's been happening before but thanks that makes this a little easier. Super annoying when quoting several people and typing between them then this happens on the last thing I'm typing. Not an often problem but a consistent problem.

On Firefox(130.0.1) i can indeed replicate this by removing any lines after the quote, then pressing enter, it wont exit the quote box it will keep adding to it.

I did not have to refresh, the page tho, i can remove the whole post (trashbin icon) then press the quote button, and it will add quote with a line under it.

When i ask for more specs, don't expect me to know the answer!

Just checked on desktop and it seems on Firefox browser double pressing enter will add two lines inside the text box. On Chrome it starts a new line under the text box. That seems like a Firefox problem.

On Edge double pressing enter and CTRL+Z also work.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

Well hopefully it gets fixed eventually either on the forum side of the Firefox side. I wonder if it's Chrome working because Chrome and forum software not following standards and Firefox is or if Firefox is actually broken. At least thright? Nope that's still broken too, can't delete an @ username call out after it's added and the cursor jumps through. I'll have to do a screen recording, that's only on mobile tho. . I'll make a separate thread for that one. e@Spotty t fe
