Alright so i plan on keeping my computer on most of the time without restarting much besides when i need to and the computer will 90% be used for playing video games like MMOs and such

Would a SSD REALLY affect performance much? if so is it worth a extra 100$ that id be removing from being able to buy a cpu cooler or some fans for my case or is a SSD basically just for that 10-30sec boot times or 10sec load times?

I would always recommend an SSD, except for when your budget says no. You can put some games and frequently used applications on it, and the faster load times will really benefit you.

By how much though? currently SWTOR takes me FOREVER to load on my laptop but ive talked to a lot of people in game and a lot have SSDs and they experience the same thing, i feel like id be putting money into something i of course want but not something id need compared to a cpu cooler or some case fans.

No one really needs an SSD, but boy does it make the computing experience a lot more enjoyable. Since using SSD based storage, I'll never, ever go back to an HDD for anything but mass, occasionally accessed storage.

I'd say skip the fans and get an SSD. Don't try and upgrade to one later, it's a bit more of a pain redoing your OS and programs...it's much easier to upgrade fans at a later date.

I find it makes everything you do snappier, and yes, boot times are greatly reduced.

Well i recently made a post about sizes of SSDs and if they are much better ill just have to go with a 120gig SSD, i just dont have the money for a 240 and currently im only using 120gigs of my laptop with all my games a CRAP ton of different TV shows a lot of music and movies. but im still debating if i really want to spend extra money on a SSD

I'd say it's worth it, though I'd say it's definitely worth it. Though I'd save the extra $50 and get a larger capacity one, they generally have better performance numbers.

but i dont have the 50$, i just got the rest of my graduation money and i have exactly enough for the 100$ case i REALLY want have 60$ left over for a SSD i filled my budget down to 5$ and ill be upgrading the motherboard and cpu when i get a job but seeing as storage is hard to reconfigure compared to a cpu and such i thought i outta get a SSD now or way down the road

OP let me hear the specs of your current pc then I will tell you whether or not to spend the money on an SSD.  Heck even without hearing them I am leaning towards no in your situation.  Heck almost nobody needs an SSD.

If you can afford it, get it. There is really no reason to not have an SSD if you can afford it. I went from >30 second boot times on my hard drive, to 4 second boot times on my SSD. To me, it's worth the 120 bucks I spent.

Would a SSD REALLY affect performance much?

YES. In fact, the improvement is so dramatic you'll wonder how you managed to use a hard disk before. it is much more worth it than a few fans and an aftermarket heatsink unless you plan to do some serious overclocking (I mean 5ghz+). if you don't, an ssd will give you a better boost.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

What monitor do you use OP?  A monitor and another video card added might be a better buy for you depending on your monitor situation.

Also in regards to cg movies loading faster many times people expect you to skip over those and if you don't well they have to wait to watch it anyway before continuing on with their dungeon or raid so whatever.  Faster load times for cgs in an mmorpg situation is pointless considering the amount of load time it will save your over a full day of game play isn't going to be anything over 10 minutes.  SSD people please stop with the BS.

No, putting your OS on an SSD wont do much regarding general use (relative to your HDD ).

Putting Games on SSD generally helps. But let me tell you I loaded 99.2% of the time BF3 maps in 2 SECONDS (beat ssd guys to the race and pick w.e spawn I wished for)

Then in BF4 came all slow (maybe they improved it ) but I didnt wait and got an SSD for that 1 purpose (big gameplay deal to me)

Otherwise, I never compared games on both sides other then here'S what I got:

-BF4 ( which I loaded 2sec fast after SSD) , other people report loading much slower with HDDs or older SSDs in the past few months (regarding patch notes), but I also have someone with a WD black HDD who loads at good speeds

-Generally (games which got put directly on SSD wihtout comparison): all I can say is that shit loads so fast I cant read the tips on loading screen ;(

-Teamspeak: well, visibly, it barely (at the extreme) loads faster. But its 100% consistent load time, everytime.

In general use, the difference I noticed is dual hardware related.

Having all random crap like hardware monitor/kaspersky/etc on the background couldreally slow down the opening of other programs (though happened very rarely)

In those regards,

-Teamspeak 3 would open slightly faster then fastest load. But consitently in correlation with the above stated. Yeah I said this again.

I got a ssd last week and i didn't realy got that wow feeling though. it just speeds up your computer a little that's all.

I second this and will lay on my comment that it's in relation of your HDD.

Theres an array of crappy to excellent SSDs just like theres anything from WD black equivalents to sata 2 stuff..

If you give us psecs or atleast when you got the cimputer, others here may bring their history and estimate better.

edit: I left some grammar traps for Grammar Nazis to stumble upon. ''insert sneaky troll face''. It's all due to fast tpying, dont worry.

Im using a 32" Samsung idk the model or anything its a LED screen just got it last christmas was around 400-500$ and is rated as one of the best so i dont need that and my video card is plenty fast enough for the games i want to play.

Im going to get a 120gig since i dont use much memory and if anything later on when windows 9 or something comes out ill upgrade and go all out but for now 120gig SSD and a 1T HDD will have to do.

Well it is probably 1080p and I think money would be better spent on a 1440p monitor or higher than an SSD for sure.  With the video card you have you could get a better experience possibly playing games at a higher resolution.
