I'm trying to reset a phone, but I might need to do something a little... unethical

Here's the story, my friend, who we'll call CF, had an iPhone 6 that they got from there grandma a couple years back, but has been out of contact with here because their grandma was abusive and manipulative. CF gave it to me to have, if I could reset it it would be better so that their g-ma couldn't see the personal info I might put on it, but the problem is, there's an Apple ID password blocking quite a few things in the settings from being altered, such as being able to factory reset it, and putting it into recovery mode and resetting it with iTunes didn't work, it also needed a password even after resetting it in order to do whatever it need to do. What do I do because the only other way I can think of would be for CF to contact that grandma, but they don't wan't to do that because of, well, her being a dick. Please help!!!
