Game Lags on Anything but windowed

So basically when I try to run Valorant it lags, the only way for it to not lag is to be in Windowed mode. Windowed fullscreen and Fullscreen both lag. I'm running a AOC 240hz 1080p monitor. Also the clock speed of the gpu tanks down to 140-200mhz in Fullscreen and windowed fullscreen, while in Windowed it boosts to ~2000mhz.  It's a XFX 6950XT

Which CPU, motherboard, PSU? Which Windows?

windowed fullscreen is functionally the same as windowed mode. I can't imagine how it would have different behavior with that, leading me to think it's the actual size or the position of the window that's the issue.

 

Does the problem persist in fullscreen at any different resolution?

I would try to reinstall something, like Valorant or Windows, not necessarily at the same drive

When you have it in fullscreen mode is v-sync turned on? I've seen some weird behavior with vsync like that.

If your clock speed is tanking like that then that's the graphics driver crashing. I would either make sure it's up to date or DDU in safe mode and fresh install it from the latest installer from AMD. The less likely, but still quite possible, your PSU might be too small and the GPU is just basically turning off (which I've had before). There's a couple other things it could be but they're so unlikely and would take too long to explain. If the driver doesn't work and ur PSU is up to snuff, then I would probably reinstall windows before getting into anything else.

 

P.S. If you have any overclocks set just put it back to default.
