EVGA GTX 760 Running at high speeds at idle

I just recently build a new gaming computer and I put in an EVGA GTX 760 superclocked edition.  When I first boot up the the computer and open up EVGA precision, it says that the GPU is running at around 135 mhz and around 30C.  But after I fire up a game and play for a little while even after I close and game and some time goes by, the GPU is still running at over 1000 mhz and around 45C when idling. Is there any reason for this?

Is the game still open in the background? Check your processes in task manager.

have you tried turning it off and on again? ^^

maybe update the drivers too.

Try using Afterburner. Precision is a pain in the butt sometimes

That first suggestion... lol. BUt that is actually a good idea in this case

you always do that first solves 80% of all errors that occur in mid use. ^^

no games are open in the background. the processor runs nice and cool and at low mhz but the gpu doesnt.
