What is a good Secure Brower with good Ad Blocking capabilities or add-ons?

So I have been using Google Chrome for years now, but I am getting EXTREMELY fed-up with the high RAM  usage, the constant ad tracking and information collection of google. More recently their blatant attempts to remove or stop adblockers has REALLY pissed me off. So, I am looking for a new Browser that is good on speed, has good security, adblocking features (or add-ons) and does not suck down RAM and CPU resources.

Lately I have been hearing good things about Opera GX and I like some of the features I have seen., but made by a Chinese company. My last browser was Firefox except it was so freaking slow I drove me nuts. So I rather not go back to it unless I have to. Additionally I am not interested in Microsoft Edge, so don't even bother with suggesting it.

Does anyone here have any suggestions?

I am assuming your title is tl;dr, in that case I would try something out like the brave browser.

Vivaldi is another chromium browser you could try. (Has built in adblocking an no google tracking but the plugins all work the same).

But im using Firefox now and i cannot say its any slower then a chromium browser. (i dont use Google Chrome).

When i ask for more specs, don't expect me to know the answer!

Firefox and ublock origin. Not sure why it was slow but it's the best ad blocking option out there right now

Firefox forks are a thing. Mainstream Firefox is pretty bad, they're trying to make a BROWSER political, I don't like that, performance is also lame as it's cluttered with things you can't even skip during installation or disable afterwards, and there's no Lite version available for download. It suffers from the same dumbification Chrome does.

Anyway, I use Waterfox, pretty happy with it. RAM usage is fine, tho I only use one window/tab at a time, with one window (this post) open it's currently using 440MB, and I have uBlock Origin, noscript, dark reader (not needed for this site but enabled) and a bunch of other minor addons. CPU usage is tiny but I have a powerful chip so it won't slow the system down, though if you have an older PC with say a dual core CPU it might.

It can play DRM protected content but since I don't use any streaming services I have that setting disabled.

I use thorium with unlock and localcdn extensions as my "security extensions" fastest browser in the world btw. You can try using floorp which is a Firefox fork and is better than vanilla Firefox in almost every way.

i think that's a misunderstanding though that people have, they think chrome uses lots of ram when it really doesn't, it's just that they have hundreds of pages open and thus chrome is a "resource hog" and probably has a "memory leak"... 😅

for me, one youtube page or whatever typically uses 40-150mb, so 440 does sound a lot to me.

however interesting about the forks, i didn't know that, but that ram usage actually makes me skeptical i could use it lol.

ps:

Yeah that is the issue. I can have like 6-8 Tabs open and Chrome is using like a whole gig of RAM. That is ludicrous, it should not be any where near that.

then u need more ram tho.

i agree this shouldn't be an issue but it also depends on *what* is open exactly...

94 tabs open (all youtube)

currently at 45%....

i wouldn't want to play some games with chrome using 45% but that isn't a chrome issue thats a too little ram issue (so self inflicted by user)

windows is pretty good at multi taksing, as long it has enough resources,  that's just how pcs work i guess?

ok and what extensions are installed?

screenshot of your complete startup tab please?

obviously you shouldn't have issues with these specs and certainly not when chrome only uses 1gb or so... i suspect some bloatware running in background etc.

also you could just use Firefox but i doubt that'll help as ram usage is very similar and available extensions largely the same afaik.
