Almost there but now having second thought on some parts...

Not quite.

My brains are confuddled.

However, total budget 2K-2.5K, I can work with that.

In TPU's UE5 benchmark here, the 12700K performed similar to a 7700 non-X, while the 7900 performed similar to a 13700K.

Generally going to be used for gaming and possibly running unreal engine to create a game with a group of friends. I've already received all the parts but Amazon decided Amazon to send me an Amazon warehouse "renewed" motherboard, so I'm having second thoughts. Should I upgrade to a DDR5 Motherboard and RAM? Did I pick a good enough CPU and monitor? I would like for this machine to last a few years as my current build just now started to struggle a bit 10 years after it was built. Friend helped me with this as I've been out of the loop on parts for well over a decade.

Please let me know if you think there is anything I can improve from this list:

  • AMD Ryzen 9 5950X 16-core, 32-thread unlocked desktop processor
  • MSI MAG X570 TOMAHAWK WIFI Motherboard (AMD AM4, DDR4, PCIe 4.0, SATA 6Gb/s, M.2, USB 3.2 Gen 2, AC Wi-Fi 6, HDMI, ATX)
  • Corsair VENGEANCE LPX DDR4 64GB (2x32GB) 3200MHz CL16 Intel XMP 2.0 Computer Memory - Black (CMK64GX4M2E3200C16)
  • SAMSUNG 990 PRO Series - 2TB PCIe Gen4. X4 NVMe 2.0c - M.2 Internal SSD (MZ-V9P2T0B/AM) X 2
  • SAMSUNG 49-Inch Odyssey G9 Series DQHD 1000R Curved Gaming Monitor, 1ms(GtG), VESA DisplayHDR 1000, 240Hz, AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, Height Adjustable Stand, LS49CG954ENXZA, 2024

Lastly and I guess most importantly GPU I need to pick a GPU my friend had offered his old 2600 GPU (NVIDIA I'm guessing) but I have yet to see it (he has a pretty hectic life). I have somewhere between 1k and 1.5k more budget and not opposed to moving over to DDR5. Please throw some ideas in here.

Some parts that I am reusing from my current PC:

  • Corsair iCUE H150i (one or two years old I think)
  • Corsair Vengeance Series Black C70 (several Corsair Air Series AF120 LED)
  • EVGA Supernova 1000 WATT G1 ATX Power Supply 120-G1-1000-VR (about 10 years old)

Budget (including currency): USD

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for:  Unreal Engine 5, EFT, Rust, BG3, possibly Helldivers2 and endless list of games I've bought and not played

For heavily multithreaded work the 5950X is still pretty good, but for a PC that is primarily gaming I don't think it makes sense. If I was staying with AM4, I'd look at the 5700X3D, or if I was moving to AM5, then the 7900 non-X, 7900X3D or for Intel: a 14700.

There's an Unreal benchmark in the review here:

https://www.techpowerup.com/review/intel-core-i7-14700k/7.html

Puget include it here:

https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/14th-gen-intel-core-processors-content-creation-review/#Game_Dev_Virtual_Production_Unreal_Engine

If your friend has a 2060, that's a decent enough graphics card and can play most games just fine, though you might find it struggles with UE5, depending on what features you're using for the project.

This would also involve upgrading the CPU, as you would need to upgrade to AM5 or LGA 1700. If you didn't already get all the parts, I would say yes as getting a 7900 based system would cost about the same amount for better single core performance and the same multithreaded performance with an upgrade path. The problem is that since you already have those parts, it's not really worth the effort to return everything and go for the better parts.

Is that a typo for a 2060? A card like that isn't amazing, but it should be enough to get you by. An upgrade to something like a 4070 is probably better though, especially considering the monitor you have realistically should have a 7900XTX/4080 or 4090 as the card driving it.

Returning the parts is easy and they are all completely unopened thanks to the used motherboard fiasco. For those concerned with having the parts already. I have a current system I used so I can bypass the instant gratification for a couple of weeks more.

It is not typo but it was free and he offered. I just don't think I'll see it for weeks or months. He tends to be very busy and a bit flaky.

I'm not aware of any recent AMD or nvidia graphics card with the model name "2600". There is a Ryzen 2600, but that's a CPU...

I'm just going by what he told me I'm not sure if there is or not a GPU that has the naming 2600. It also wouldn't be recent as its his backup from at least a system back. I'm guessing whatever it is he thought it would be better than the current GTX970 my old system is sporting.

It also looks like that mobo I had select is out of stock everywhere except for used which I'd prefer not to use. Any suggestions there?

Sooo, you need a:

1. CPU

2. Motherboard

3. Memory (preferably 64GB+)

4. 4TB of fast storage

5. Monitor

6. Graphics card

Do NOT need:

1. PSU

2. Cooler

3. Case

Total budget: $1000-$1500.

Primary usage: games (5120x1440, G-Sync and Freesync supported). Secondary usage: UE5 (development).

Is that right?

Not quite. I purchased and received the items below already but apparently the motherboard is no longer in stock new so I received a "renewed" one. Since I don't want to use a used motherboard I'm having second thoughts about the whole purchased but Amazons return are easy so I'm wondering if I should go next gen or just replace the motherboard. I do need a GPU since I'm not sure I'll ever get the promised one. I've spent roughly 1K (and given a credit for the motherboard of $258), total budget though is 2K to 2.5K.

The CL46 RAM is going to be a bottleneck and that Gigabyte board only has a 1G LAN when most all new boards have a 2.5G LAN.

If that's true then how about making a suggestion?

It is a bit slow, but FYI: I picked it because I wanted to leave some room in the budget for other things and they don't require XMP/EXPO to operate.

Can you please give me some 4080 and 4090 options? Budget has increased a bit. I can spend about 1.4K in a GPU.
