microstutters on high end PC

crabcrab

Hi All, I am having some stuttering issues in Fortnite, COD Warzone and PUBG. Overwatch 2, The Finals seem to work fine.

Can anyone advise what can I try to fix the system? I can try attach HWinfo of me playing some of the stuttering games. Could someone look into it?

I am actually thinking of replacing my GPU but not even sure if it causes the issues, or the CPU or maybe I have a faulty Motherboard...

My setup:

7800X3D

7900XTX Asus TUF

Asus ROG B650E-E

Gskill RAM 6000 CL30

ADATA XPG Gammix S70 Blade 2TB M2 SSD

The fixes I tired already:

checked for thermal throttling

drivers DDU and reinstall (muliple versions)

tweaked game settings, DX12/DX11

updated BIOS

reinstalled windows

tried different ram and turned on off EXPO

reinstalled windows

reseated the GPU

uninstalled Armoury crate

disabled Game bar

pls help anyone

Fortnite has terrible stutters... I play it too and it's really fun but a terrible stuttery experience on my mid-range 12600K/6700 XT PC.

Make sure you have AMD FreeSync on and Fullscreen game mode (not windowed, windowed fullscreen, or borderless)

Set unlimited FPS in Fortnite and all the other games, and then set a per-app FPS cap in RivaTuner.

Edit: and don't run performance mode in Fortnite, use DX12, performance mode is $h!t this season

Especially on AMD, dx12 is way better, performance mode is more for a low end prebuilt OptiPlex PC from amazon with an i5-4790k and GTX 1050.

yeah, notice how these are all online games? which kinda implies network lag and not microstutters (which is an extremely rare phenomenon anyway and people usually talk about MEGA stutters when they say that, but i digress lol)

Check your latency bro. OW especially literally runs on a potato so your pc shouldn't have issues with it at all for example.

Armory crate - are you 100% sure its entirely removed, check processes.

Any other weird 3rd party programs?  Picture of windows startup tab please?

lastly run firestrike benchmark (demo on steam)  and give me a link to the results so i can check if there aren't any hardware issues (however unlikely that seems)

IMPORTANT!

@crabcrab Apparently, Armoury Crate is almost impossible to remove, so make sure to use Revo Uninstaller. (not a sponsored forum post 🤣)

It's free and it will delete all the registry keys and leftover files from Armoury Crate. You can download the portable version if you don't want to install it on your PC.

yup i keep seeing this in videos... high end system,  the game stutters like crazy anyway... no idea how people put up with it.

another thing, i can make OW lag like crazy, set fps to anything but my screen refresh rate and there will be occasional freezes, etc. also hdr seems to have a very similar effect (didn't use to, but does now) or turning on gsync... immediate lag galore and crashes lol... how far we've come.

nah man, i just turn on fast sync in NVCP turn vsync off in OW and its smooth sailing (latency is 20 ms, which is apparently really good for OW)

Crate has it's own uninstaller, but it's janky, you actually have to download it I think, bruh

What I said in my original post (VRR, no in-game cap, fps cap in RTSS, fullscreen mode) made EVERY stutter go away for me.

But Fortnite is absolutely terrible without intense optimizations.

thanks for all the tips guys.

For uninstalling armoury crate I used their uninstaller and the proceses seem to disappear.

Thanks for the tips guys. I will try to use RTSS. Actually Fortnite on DX12 has only minor microstutters. COD Warzone or PUBG has so many stutters, that it's unplayable. I don't know what to do... Also in COD seemed that Multiplayer or smaller maps work fine - no stutters, but Urzikstan is unplayable....

nzxt cam, razer app, steeseries, spotify and actually also realtek are candidates... turn them all off in startup, restart pc, make sure they aren't running and see if there are any improvements.  (amd noise suppression i dunno  but I'd be wary about that too)

Firestrike

so razer, steel series and spotify - all of them I installed after I already freshly installed windows, and checked for the stutters in games. They were still there, so I installed these and basically they do not make any difference.

NZXT cam I need as it controls my cooling and RGB fans. I tried disabling it - exited the app and checked for background proceses... Stutters were still present in games.

i need a link to be sure but everything looks normal.

if you have that many known to be problematic 3rd party apps like the infamous nzxt cam installed i can only tell you to uninstall them all.

here's my startup for comparison,  see the difference?  yeah icue and trident z, but i checked thoroughly they have no weird processes running and use almost no resources,  and the important part is my pc performs as expected, actually a bit better.

yeah pc performs as it should... if there are issues its a software issue,  remove *all* background and startup processes that arent windows default.

How do I do that? Maybe I should reinstall windows again? And only install necessary drivers?

you want me to quit all of these? image.thumb.png.114a4bb3ba18101f8ba9e8427767ddef.png
