My pc just died.

Jackie55

Something just died in my pc. Pretty sure of it. Was reading online newspapers when my pc restarted. Now it won't post. I'm getting a black screen and the motherboard diagnostics are stuck on the cpu led.

My heads not working right so can anyone recommend some diagnostic steps to help me figure out what's wrong? I don't trust the diagnostic leds. It's never the cpu.

What are your system specs? We can only make broad, generalized guesses if we don't know what you're working with.

Have you tried clearing CMOS?

I sold my soul for ProSupport.

First thing to do is to open up and check that all the cables are plugged in. Maybe the power cable to the cpu is loose?

Condolences...

With that much no info can't really help

Start by unplugging everything that is unnecessary: e.i.: extra monitors, usb pens, printers, mouse, speakers/headset. Try booting it with just one monitor and a keyboard plugged in.

If that works, plug things back in one by one until you find which device is causing the issue.

If it still doesn't boot you'll need to open it up (If you're comfortable with that) and unplug things internally such as extra hard drives, your graphics card, try booting with a single stick of ram if you have more than one it.

Just a process of elimination for now to see if you can narrow the issue down to a certain bit of hardware.

Apologies.

I'm using an msi b550 motherboard, a 5800x3d, a rtx 4070, 32 gb of corsair ram and a 850watt seasonic focus power supply.

Since its hanging on the cpu led, i'm just about to test the cpu in my sons system. That's the handy thing about us being on the same platform.

Got it thanks to your advice. Try it with one stick of ram. I've got a dead ram stick. The system posts with one and not the other. I'm so glad I tried that before pulling the cpu out. I've even managed to get my system back up and running again although only one stick of ram. Thanks for that.

I will NOT say anything about AM4 and Corsair, nope.

Not even to @podkall

Not at all.  Cuz this is a failed stick and not a compatibility issue.

Yep had the same issue too 3 years ago,  3 months after getting my 2x16GB 3600 Corsair Vengeance one stick died, Amazon kindly RMAed it but I waited for the new ones before sending the old one back

Good instinct, as one of the new stick never was even recognized !! So I made my mix with one stick from each kit and sent back the faulty ones...

And then realized that the 2 sticks weren't even same manufacturer, got one Hynix one Micron ! 😄 But well had no issue with that since

Bye bye Corsair RAM then .. 😛

should I make a post when my Corsair VENGEANCE rated @3000Mhz 18CL but runs at 3200Mhz dies?

IF at 2000MHz/Gear1 ? If IF clocks lower then you don't gain anything (or even lose) performance compared to 3600 RAM/1800 IF

I have Corsair Vengeance LPX Black 2x 8gb, CL16 3200Mhz.

I didn't know there were any problems with that model?

Still I have an Intel I5 13400, not an AMD cpu.

I also run the ram at base speed, disabled XMP, feels more stable that way.
