Now would be a good time to upgrade? (Mid-January 2024)

Budget (including currency): Around PHP 15,000-18,000 (between $270-$210 USD) for GPU; around 10,000php for CPU ($200usd)

Country: Philippines

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for:

  • GAMES: Cyberpunk 2077, Alan Wake 2, Dead Space (2023 Remake), Dying Light 2, Resident Evil 4 Remake, The Quarry, or Games to be release for the next 2-3 years.
  • WORKLOADS: Vegas Pro 21, Adobe Photoshop, Android Studio, Virtual Machine, OBS Livestream

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

I am need of advice if now would be a good time to upgrade or should I wait for 8th gen Ryzen CPUs to be release and same goes with graphics cards. As I've been asking here a couple of times on what is the best upgrade path and after some research. I've decided to upgrade at the following plan:

  1. CPU
    • CURRENT CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 1700
    • UPGRADING TO: AMD Ryzen 7 5700x
  2. GPU
    • CURRENT GPU: AMD RX580 8gb 256-Bit GDDR5 Asus Strix OC Edition
    • UPGRADING TO:  Asus Strix 12gb GDDR6 RX 6700 XT

CURRENT OVERALL SPECS:

  • CPU -- AMD Ryzen 7 1700 (AM4) - Original CPU since the PC was built back in late 2017.
  • Motherboard -- Gigabyte GA-B450 Aorus Pro WiFi (BIOS: 60h - 04/FEB/2021, ryzen 5000 series ready!) (2nd motherboard, upgraded from 2020)
  • RAM -- G.Skill Trident Z RGB 3000mhz 2x8gb DDR4 Black HS, CL16 1.35v, pn: F4 3000C16D (2nd RAM, upgraded last October 2018)
  • GPU -- AMD RX580 8gb 256-Bit GDDR5 Asus Strix OC Edition 3 FAN Full RGB (Asus Aura) (2nd GPU since October 2018)
  • PSU -- Seasonic M12II-620 EVO 620W 80+ Bronze FULLY MODULAR (Original PSU)
  • MONITOR -- Asus ROG Swift XG27V VA Panel 27" 1080p Panel FREESYNC 144hz Curved Screen;  Dell U2412M IPS 60hz Monitor
  • Cooling -- NZXT Kraken Z63

GOAL: To have a more smoother gameplay with newer games and also to maximize the potential of my high FPS monitor. I'm still contented with 1080p gaming. Looking for a best-bang-for-your-buck upgrade as possible.

Should I wait to upgrade or now would be a good time to upgrade? Any thoughts or ideas are welcome.

Thank you.

I would honestly hold off on the GPU upgrade, go with a 5800X3D now, and upgrade the GPU after 4000 Super series have had a chance to really hit the market and drop the price of competing cards. You'll get much better value that way, and FSR can hold you on that 580 for a little longer.

Outside of a drop in Ryzen 5000 series CPU, its going to be hard to get meaningful upgrades with your budget. That would involve an R5 5600 and something like an RX 6600 or a used RTX 3060 12GB. Might be able to squeeze a 2x16GB 3200/3600MHz kit of RAM into that as well.

the 5800x3d is almost double the price of the 5700x, also the guy is gaming at 144hz, im pretty sure a 5700x can achieve that

Depends on the game, OP states their game preference, but if this exact question was asked for someone who almost exclusively plays WoW, a 5800x3D and RX 580 would be killer for 1080p WoW. Basically can't get >60 fps in some of the most important scenarios like large raids/battlegrounds/cities without the 3D v-cache or the best CPUs on the market.

Seems good to me with that budget

5800X3D is better but double the price of 5700X, will vaporize your budget

And I don't think RTX 4000 Super shennanigans will change anything in the low/mid tier GPU market, so 6750XT still rulez, it's x5 the RX580 granny performance 🙂

Pricing depends on region. It's not double the price here in the US, it's $200 versus $320, closer to 50%. Big increase, sure, but it will hold up a lot better than the 5700X long term since it doesn't sound like OP would like to upgrade after this for a while.

I didn't say to upgrade to a 5800X3D and ALSO get a new GPU, if you read my comment. Not talking about "vaporizing" the budget, just spreading out the purchases over a longer term so they can get a better long-term viable upgrade.

Also, the 6750XT isn't really valid here since they seem to go for around ₱23,000-27,000 and his GPU budget was stated to be less than ₱18,000. They would need to pull the same spread-out budget trick to get a 6750XT as they would to get a 5800X3D.

Ok

I rather got European prices in my head, and weirdly here I could get for Xmas a 5700X for 180EUR vs 5800X3D 340EUR...

18000 PHP is around 320USD seemed like a good 6750XT price...But if it's too expensive there's the 6650XT
