Very high temps on new custom loop?

Just installed my first custom loop (CPU only) a couple days ago, at idle CPU temps are 40-45c which is higher than I was expecting but after playing some games for a few hours yesterday the CPU was a 100c. I am certain I didn't mess up the water block install, I used the provided thermal pads on the VRM's and used a new tube of Noctua NT-H2 thermal paste and applied the recommended amount for an lga1200 socket. fan speeds were set to auto and the pump defaulted to full speed which is where I left it. The pump draws directly from the reservoir and flows to the water block then to the radiator and back to the reservoir. The loop was bled of all air bubbles and is flowing nicely. my suspicion is the pump rpm was too high causing the water to flow too fast for the heat to transfer efficiently. Thanks in advance for any help and advise.

The loop consists of an EK FLT120 Res, EK quantum inertia d5 pwm pump, MSI MPG Carbon EK X water block, Bykski RC 240mm radiator, Corsair LL120 fans and 12mm hardlines and fittings.

You messed up the water block install. You said your certain but a gaming workload should not be getting anywhere close to 100c. Sounds like its not making proper contact and is only getting partial contact.

Idle temps should be around 30-45c depending on the cpu, usually intel cpus tend to be a bit on the cooler side during idle, but that all depends on room ambient temps.

Under load i would make the fans go to 70-75% or until the point where they dont bother you. For my NH-D15 i can do 100% fan speed, but i usually keep them at 70-85% when gaming depending on the game.

Im not saying its not possible but I dont really see how I could have messed it up. what should i be looking at to check?

Just took it apart and took the water block off, the thermal paste look ok to me. What do you guys think?IMG_6612.thumb.jpeg.2f001db8f967bab7765b780aa3326ff4.jpegIMG_6613.thumb.jpeg.51cd9ceef79e3f08481791e70eea8078.jpeg

Did you use the CORRECT thickness thermal pads for the correct areas of the VRM?

Why are the thermal pads overlapping, and then folded over? It SHOULD NOT.

Very little indentation marks on the thermal pads...looks like poor contact.

EK-Quantum MSI MPG Carbon Z590 EK C D-RGB is what you are using?

Did you gradually tighten the the 4x screws in a X-pattern? 1 or 2 turns each, until snug?

Make sure the loop is correctly hooked up the inlet and outlet ports correctly.

Coolant should flow IN the port on the right, and OUT port on the left.
