So looking to get the "beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO" headphones and confused on whether I should get the 32 OHM or the 80 OHM. I know the 250 OHM you need a proper DAC for it, but what about the 80 OHM version?

My motherboard: GIGABYTE B660M DS3H

A fairly cheap motherboard I got last year and concerned that the 80 OHM version won't work well without a DAC, should I get the 32 OHM instead? Am I losing in a lot of sound quality by not getting the 80 OHM (and possibly a DAC if needed)? I'm not an expert in audio at all, this is coming from someone who has been using Logitech gaming headphones his whole life.

Doesn't really matter that much. You won't be able to tell the difference most likely. I would just get the 32 ohms so you can use it on all devices. 80 ohms is fine on that motherboard 🙂

Well I'll trust your word then lol. Gonna just get the 32 OHM version as then I can still use it on my phone in bed.

If you do find, that the headphones sound significantly better on your phone than on your PC, you can always get a $10 USB-C to 3.5mm adapter from apple. That one will also driver the 80 Ohm version fine.

So I have the DT770 Pro 80 Ohm myself, and I notice a significant difference when using the onboard audio rather than a dedicated sound card. I dont have the same motherboard, so it may be I just have a particular bad onboard audio. But they usually are just the cheapest poorly shielded crap they can throw on there to claim they have [some marketing word]

can also just add a cheap dac will do the exact same in helping power more power hungry headphones
