It finally happened - Microsoft's forced BIOS updates cost me 2200 €

Dwnld

I pretty much summed it up on the title, but I guess I have to elaborate.

I shut down my Asus 16" ROG Strix G16 last night as I normally would. Now when I started it up, it started to update BIOS... I knew it basically cannot be skipped for good because Windows will not go to desktop before the BIOS update is complete so I let it do it's thing.

After a few minutes the update finished and it says something like "update complete, computer will be reset".

...and that is the last thing I've seen on the screen since then. :sadge: When I try to start it, it lights up the keyboard, fans spin and after about 1,2 mins and it shuts down. No image on the screen or sound.

The title is a little bit click baity because I do have warranty left. Instead I lose quality time with my laptop which is worse. Who should I blame, Asus or Microsoft? Maybe both? Should I make a YouTube video, monetize it, get tons of money and buy a MSI laptop?

I don't even know why you are forced to update your BIOS in the first place. Asus bloatware out of the box checking for updates?

Microsoft doesnt have any fault in this, they can dictate OS updates but not BIOS ones.

Windows has been able to update UEFI BIOS' since W8. It was just manufacturers that were lazy. OPs issue seems like an memory training related error which can pop up after bios updates.

Another FYI, this even applies to desktop motherboards.

This could also be a case of the BIOS update changing the disk access method from AHCI to RAID or other type that is the default setting, changing it to what it was when you installed Windows should be enough to allow Windows to start.

It's possible. Not in my case since the laptop wont even POST, so that is not the issue.
