Is it not possible to drill holes in the correct location for new stand offs in a regular case? Wouldn't that be much easier? What stops you from putting this in a regular case with some minor modifications? That would seem much easier than making an entire new case.

Wouldn’t that just ruin the case? Also, the psu cable runs are quite short so I don’t think that would work in standard cases

I don't think so? So relocate the PSU? Or extend the wires?

I know before cases were available with PSUs on bottom, I was relocating them there. Not using anything fancy either.  As you can tell by one of my early hack jobs here, but once it's all together, it doesn't look too bad:

you cant just cut the mb tray with slots out of the hp case and just mount that in a case. if you wanted to use the full pci slots you can just use extensions with pci mounts. but psu will be proprietary so most likely will have to add extensions and make a mount to mount it too the atx psu slot. alot of work for a meh pc... 🤷‍♂️

not only that all the power and reset are also propriety so...

I would go with cedar instead. It's much lighter than plywood and the smell is pleasant but deters pests. If you want even lighter, pine and some other softwood are lighter and cheaper. Or, you could get something beautiful like palm or coconut cut along the grain so there are black lines in the wood, or across the grain so that there are black dots. Or zebrawood, burled wood. You could go crazy and a cut from the root area and fill in the gaps with clear epoxy. Blacktail Studio on YouTube would be a good channel to watch as he does a lot of work with epoxy and wood.

the easy way is to make a box out of wood. then use the mb tray and mount that or just drill and mount it with some nuts and bolts. the pcie slots is the hard part.

to make a wood pannal you joint one side and then cut with a table saw the other side and then glue em. when dry you crape off the glue spots then plane it and then you got a pannal. you can probly buy pre made pannals and just cut it to size.

You're going to need several clamps for the gluing phase.
