Another Dumb ? Carmex on Fan Bearings

tjrose91

idea behind this and works great is that Carmex is petroleum based 43% i would use straight petroleum jelly but out for NOO particular reason going dry for a while anyways, any long term effects on Carmex on fan berings, some of the 12v dc fans have a sticker i can take off and i can add the carmex to the spindle as Fan model # aam2510s1an, but i assume no long term issues now the fan for my car laptop charger adapter sounds alot better

its like the question can i use toothpaste on for thermal paste, and carmex is alot cheaper than getting a thing of bearing grease 5-8 USD versus a dab of carmex that costs pennies

Did you look up the material composition of the bearings and whether the active ingredients of Carmex might interact?

I've been using computers since around 1978, started learning programming in 1980 on Apple IIs, started learning about hardware in 1990, ran a BBS from 1990-95, built my first Windows PC around 2000, taught myself malware removal starting in 2005 (also learned on Bleeping Computer), learned web dev starting in 2017, and I think I can fill a thimble with all that knowledge. 😉 I'm not an expert, which is why I keep investigating the answers that others give to try and improve my knowledge, so feel free to double-check the advice I give.

My phone's auto-correct is named Otto Rong.🤪😂

I bet it if you went to any tire shop and asked for a cap full of grease, they would not hesitate you give you some.

With that said, carmex is likely not going to hurt anything. It's basically just wax and grease. A bit thicker than what is normally used in fans, but should work alright.

that's what i assumed that you leave the carmex in the car it liquefies very fast, so when the fan is spinning it heats up the carmex and gets it all in there, if i had straight jelly that would be better only one so far the fan makes the standard jet noise and not vibrates as much

that stuff is not ment for pc parts its grease, it stinks and the smell will linger, petroleum jelly is more suitable that carmex but wanted to verify on the carmex issue

Guess what else isn't meant for PC parts... (Carmex)

The problem is that carmex has wax. Wax solidifies when cool. That is not what you want as lubrication.
