AMD challenge

No offense to Linus or anyone else apart of the newer video, but all the problems with AMD cards that I have saw from using a AMD card for years and knowing many people who have them. We have never experienced these problems, the only time we have problems is when we play certain games that had a massive update and we have not updated are drivers that the game dev not AMD states you will need for Nvidia and AMD based systems. I know it was mainly good at the end, but I generally want to know who else has these problems they state

Are you suggesting they lied? Or is it that any slight critisim of AMD's known issues is not premited even if they're treated with a 1000 kid gloves and praise to avoid fandom backlash?

 

I wonder who is this "we" you're speaking of becuase all of those issues and more are regularly posted about online. I had much worse experiences when I decided to go with the 7900xtx for my build last year and switched soon after. If anything my critisim of the video was that they had to tip-toe around their presentation to not invite mass downvotes and angry comments from a certain well-known online group of dedicated fans, as it is with the majority of creators. but that's just my personal opinion.

It does seem like RDNA3 does have some major issues for some people. 

RDNA2 seems quite solid at this point though.

I wonder if Luke having the card on a riser, and them having had other GPU drivers before even if they used DDU, actually played a role.

There's so many factors not accounted for that you have to take everything with a truckload of salt. 

 

Luke had the most janky setup even if you ignore the riser cable so it's difficult to determine what actually caused majority of his issues.

j2cents is also done with amd or atlest the system. gpus are probly fine.

 

for me when i had an 470 and serten driver would not work. and the drivers/ software has never really worked for me. not as good as with nvidea. the thing about having to let your pc boot for 30 mints seems crazzy...

 

ya you save a tone of moeny but intell cpus are cheap these days.

 

both do things different for self ocing hard to say witch is better.

 

thats imo thow and what i heard. thow i never hear of the fallow up to the problems so no idea of there patched or not... i just stay away from it like thow 12 pin....

 

not saying nvidea driver are better thow i had problem with em too. like 3090 not working on w7 thow it says it dose...

did you watch the entire video? They adress a lot of the stuff, and most/nearly all Lukes trouble was gone with the latest driver updates. The first part was related to the "early adopter trouble" they had back in November.

One thing is for sure:

 

The video didn't remove any fear someone might have when deciding between Nvidia and AMD. Even tho they explained a lot of the issues they had really well and made sure the viewer was aware that other factors might have caused the problems they experienced, it wouldn't change someone's look on AMD GPUs when they've never used an AMD GPU or haven't in a long time.

 

What it takes for the average person to buy an AMD GPU is someone telling up front that they're just as good of a choice as Nvidia.

I'd add to this by saying that we also need "Nvidia Challenge" to show that there are issues on NVIDIA side too, it's not like they are flawless.

I did but even if it improved with driver update doesn't automatically mean it also wouldn't have improved if other things were different.

Issues can be caused by more than a single thing.

That is very true. Given, however, that he used the same janky setup with a ryzer cable and 2 PSUs, but updated drivers and the problem went away, id say that "proper scientific method" of changeing one parameter of the time was followed.

Also, they kinda address this in the wrap-up, which is why i asked

Luke also ranted a bit about people taking only half of his conclusion and getting angry about it on last weeks WAN

Not sure why is it even titled as challenge, as if it's something so new or rather bad and unusable. Because I've had no severe issues that would make horrible experience or make it unplayable. 

That said I've been using 7800X3D + 7900 XTX build for a while. Zero complaints, tested games on max, did some benchmarks, responsive and solid.

I think it was a followup to the Intel Arc Challenge and Linux Challenge (which DEFINETLY was a challenge - the algorithem feeds on Linus' tears). The promt was that both LnL defaulted to Nvidia out of habit at the time, Nvidia doing what it was doing with pricing and Linus having a bad experience with AMD cards in the past, so the "challenge" part was mostly that he had to go and try it out again.

Only issue I just noticed is turning on FSR in Starfield (just turned it on last night to try it out), gives me a ghost image on everything.  Like an aura almost.  Had to turn it off.

Can agree with this people do not listen to the full story before judging or getting angry I made this post asking who has the same problems because in my experience I have never had problems but I know some others are so I was trying to figure out who has them and how they fix it or deal with it and if it has anything to do with their side not the gpu or if it's AMDs fault
