Nvidea to fit SSD slot on gaming cards

Introducing NVIDIA RTX IO: GPU-Accelerated Storage Technology For The Next Generation of Games | GeForce News | NVIDIA

I stumbled across this little bit of news and wondered if it was being discussed here, a search resulted in a blank

What it seems to me, apart from gaining 1 or 2 nvme slots for your PC you will also see faster load times, a fps boost, perhaps texture limits overcome as the card can expand its vram to ssd stored data and of course a less used cpu if you store the game on the gfx card

probably minor % of improvements but the extra drives is a plus all the same?

opinions?

RTX IO, which is Nvidia's implementation of Microsoft's DirectStorage API, is already a thing. There's games out using it (or at least one game, i.e. Forespoken)

This has nothing to do with fitting an SSD slot on the GPU though. It's about the GPU being able to decompress data directly from the SSD, without having to go through the CPU.

This really isn't news anymore, since they announced it in 2020 and has definitely been discussed on these forums before.

Nope. Direct storage is already a thing it doesnt card that its next to it.

Nvidia just saved money and made the 4060 a x8 card and asus just saw that as an opportunity to add a couple more lanes for a ssd since it has 16 pins anyway
