Best 8/9th gen Intel for rx 5700xt?

Why 8/9th gen?

In addition to the GPU, it also matters what game's your playing. Generally, these days, the 8700(K) and 9900(K) are the best options. The 9700(K) is alright. The i5 options (8400, 9400(F), 8600(K), 9600(K), etc) can be okay depending on the games you play - with 6c/6t, it can be hit-and-miss. The i3 options are pretty much out of the question unless it's all you can afford - 4c/4t CPUs from that generation do not hold up well in modern games.

What would be the best 8/9th gen Intel cpu for the Radeon Rx 5700XT?

Thanks in Advance!

None, for most games, a 13100f would be better in my opinion due to its markedly higher single threaded performance.

Unless there's something preventing you from buying an Intel 12th or Ryzen 5000 series platform or newer, I'd recommend saving your money. That goes for any GPU really, the 5700 XT being no slouch in 2023.

Agreed. Not only this, many of the 9th gen cpus afaik aren't hyperthreaded except for i9 9900k. I was able to upgrade from a 9600k to a 10700k for a MASSIVE improvement a few years ago.

If you HAVE TO chose one or the other then I would recommend the 8700k.

I still game heavily on both an 8700k (actually its an 8086k) and a 9900k and haven't seen much of a performance difference although I tend to game at as max settings that my GPU can handle so usually GPU bound where possible.

The 9900k is an ok chip but its bloody hard to cool effectively especially if you want to OC it. The 8700k / 8086k is far more forgiving in that respect.

You can see full specs in my sig but my 8700k is paired with a 2080ti which is great for 1440p and my 9900k runs a 3080ti and does pretty well for 4k60. I've swapped GPUs into each system in the past and didn't notice any major differences in gaming performance.

You could go to the HEDT platform for 9th Gen Intel, such as the Intel Core i9 9920x on an x299 chipset motherboard

Intel Core i99920X Xseries Processor 19.25M Cache up to 4.50 GHz Product Specifications

I would spec something along the lines of:

Intel Core i9 9920x

ASUS Prime x299 Deluxe II motherboard

64 GB DDR4  Corsair Vengeance LPX Quad Channel kit 2666 MHZ (minimum) 3200 MHZ Quad channel kit better choice

2 TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe SSD

Graphics card of your choice.

1000 Watt minimum Gold Plus rated PSU of reputable quality

Intel Core i9 10920x CPU; ASUS ROG Strix x299-E Gaming II Motherboard; 64 GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 2666 MHz Quad Channel Kit; EVGA RTX 2070 Gaming 8 GB; 2 TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe m.2 SSD & 1 TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe m.2 SSD; 1 TB WD Blue SATA SSD; 2x 6 TB HGST DeskStar NAS Hard Drives; Corsair Hydro H150i RGB PRO XT All In One Cooler; Corsair RM1000i 1000 Watt PSU; Corsair Commander Pro Lighting & Fan control; 4x Corsair HD120 RGB 120 mm fans - Intake ; Lian Li 011-Dynamic Razer Edition cube case, Windows 11 Pro 23H2

If you're going to essentially build a whole new system, why in the world would you buy all of this stuff (especially considering how overpriced old Intel HEDT tends to be) instead of just going with a modern platform?

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.
