Would you guys do this?

So I can buy a used i5 4430 for 150$, or a FX8320 for 150$, which one would you guys do?

Is it safe to buy CPUs used?

And Intel CPU have the pins on motherboard so I wouldn't have to worry about bent pins on the CPU right?

So is that something you guys would do?

Absolutely not, there's no way of telling how long it's been run doing what, how hot it's been allowed to run, if it's been overclocked ect (unless it's a locked chip for that last one).

I'm not saying it's not possible to get one that's been looked after, but I would never risk it myself because CPUs degrade over time depending on how they have been used.

I wouldn't really want to buy one. Unless it was never overclocked and was kept at good temperatures.

Are you sure? I bet some of the guys holding the reins at some of the companies whose stock you trade are real scumbags. :D

Oh there's no doubt about that. That's why I dump once profit is made lol. I only hold a handful of stocks(from companies I actually see innovation in) for long periods of time.

I don't invest in companies that make scumbag decisions, I just provide the service of hold/trading their stocks to others who want to buy. In no way do I support said company~!

Ironically, the CPU is the longest lasting component of a computer, so the chances of it dying within even two years is slim. I have OC'ed CPUs that still work fine. In this case, the i5 is a locked CPU, so it can't be overclocked...what's the worry?

If the seller has good ratings, go for it. you can always get a refund.

EDIT: The 8320 is new on amazon for $148. Why not just get that? http://www.amazon.com/AMD-FD8320FRHKBOX-FX-8320-FX-Series-Edition/dp/B009O7YU56

Turns out its unopened.

Does 150$ sound good for 4430 unopended (Sealed box)? so that means its never been used.

it's a locked CPU, i see no problem going with that, mostly if it's true ebay and paypal you have ton of buyers protection...you won't risk anything, i'd do it for sure!

This CPU has probably been upgraded to a unlocked core i7 this is most likely the reason why it is being sold online.

I have a used 2600k and it runs fine, I also got a used motherboard from an RMA.

My PC runs fine and it is overclocked, and has been overclocked balls to the walls @ 5.3GHz / 1.64v.

Well, you can't like have sex and stuff with a CPU, all you can do to it is making it crunching numers, that's all a CPU can do...of course you could use it to shim an unlevel table leg (they are VERY good for that) but most people won't...

CPU's nowadays anyway are full of overheating and overvolting protections you can't really harm them even intentionally.

yes

Only problem is that I will only be able to get the motherboard after I get CPU, so when I get it I can't test it to see if it works.

Only problem is that I will only be able to get the motherboard after I get CPU, so when I get it I can't test it to see if it works.

Then this is a problem...anyway, if (like me) you believe that games are going toward more and more multi-threaded optimisation in the future then you might (like me) believe that the FX 8 core is a better chip for gaming in the long run...so you might be better of to go with that in the first place.

BUT, if you play a lot of old tech single-threaded games (MMO's mostly) the FX is not for you, OR if you pay major bucks for electicity and/or IF you live in a very hot country and your house is not climatised.
