Releasing new videos everyday seems excessive

RoseLuck462

Unsustainable even, even for the biggest outlets.

Maybe it’s time to alter the schedule especially when the editors say they aren’t proud of every vid they work on?

There’s plenty of content all over YouTube, I don’t think anyone would think less of you for it either.

It’s obvious that Linus or LMG doesn’t care. It’s all about money and milking the viewers.

This is one of the downsides of becoming a company rather than a group of friends. However, I am happy to follow what I consider slightly quality content at a higher frequency to which I still find entertaining. I also enjoy the idea of helping a company be able to pay their 100+ employees.

Less videos means less sponsor spots and ad revenue. Late stage capitalism is not compatible with any decision that reduces revenue.

It's a downward spiral if LMG really need that much video.

A. Hire more people. to keep up.

B. Might start act like a real company, in otherwards, fire people who are incompetent.

During the employee video all of them complained about the shear amount of videos being made if this doesn’t change maybe a union is the only way to go. And Linus stepping down is clearly a good thing as it appears he is overburdened with filming and managing the company if auctioning the bilet water block was able to happen.

I don't work for LMG so all I can do is try to understand from an outsider's perspective. I imagine the cadence they've chosen is likely tied to advertising contracts. So while they have, as GN stated, created this problem themselves... they may be bound to a certain frequency in order to meet certain advertising agreements with sponsors. I understand this is also a problem they created for themselves but once an agreement has been made, it is no longer a matter of just saying "okay, we're going to slow down." They would need to first rework agreements.

Again, I don't work for LMG so this may be all hogwash. I'm just thinking out loud. I agree with those who are suggesting the frequency is too high, though. When you have LMG staff (including Linus himself) on camera all echoing the same thing, I think it's fair to say the cadence is definitely an issue. The fact that they all admit this and yet Linus made it clear no changes were planned in his response yesterday tells me there must be a reason for that.

If it was about content and sharing as much as they can, to appeal to a mass audience.. you don't pump out 20+ videos per week with that many employees without proper quality control and proper methods.

From my perspective, it's all about milking the ad revenue and sponsors to pump out as much content to get that dough.
IF you have 100 employees, you have enough safe guards and researchers to collect incorrect or valid data...
It feels sloppy, like a person dont care about ¨ripping off¨ people for a uninformative product.
It's like NVIDIA 4GB card that was 3,5GB.. not telling the whole truth and spread bad information or lack of information.

When you have 100+ employees, 20 of them are probably editors, 15 of the 100+ are probably hosts/researchers.
If someone screws up, and you don't want to re-shoot the segment that isn't proper.. with that many employees.. you think more about revenue than adding additional costs to get a accurate/close to accurate article with maybe a follow up later on.

Is the business model. That's why they are hiring like crazy. 30 videos a week means at least 50 sponsor spots. That's what pay the bills.

But... more content... more possible errors. That's basically inevitable, and they need more quality control for that. Linus already addressed this many times, and is one of the reasons they are hiring so much people.

LMG is a privately held company. They can slow down as much as their expenditure allows.

Thing with LMG is, they are trying to put too many hats on each product. Is there a market for videos aimed at the casual user? Yes. Is there a market for videos that gives the most complete level of testing? Also yes.

They are trying to sprinkle tech know how on their videos when is clearly lacking technical knowledge/don't have the time to deep dive into it. Like their recent video on the mic; they really don't know about mic to even to understand what the underlying tech is in it, just look at the comments (in amongst the comments on Linus' ethics). But one should ask, did they even need to do it? Most streamers do not need to Shure-grade gear, but will actually care about general usability. The video is perfectly viable without needing to go technical stuff the writers don't have knowledge of.

Would work if they didn't blow up 10M in a tech lab. Most likely from a loan.

Problem is, that lab is never going to be profitable. It's not going to produce more or better videos.

I'm not sure what's the business endgame for the lab, but the more I think about it, the more it feels like it was an emotional decision.

Step 1 I reckon would be to have the WAN Show just be Friday’s video. That way they’re not “skipping a day”, there’s still content going up every day, there’s still sponsors getting pushed every day. Take one whole main channel video per week out of the rotation and use that time to improve quality.

They already do that though? There's no main channel content on Friday's other than WAN?

Every once in a while before the Pandemic they tried out the Friday showcases, but then that sort of morphed into Short Circuit.

I think they're holding off on releasing a video today to look out for their sponsors. They probably warned them that the video would get downvoted to hell and filled with negative comments so the brand might have backed out or LMG is hoping the video won't receive as much hate if they wait a few days.

I don't think the decision to not release today's video was to dedicate more time QA'ing it for any data or production errors.

I doubt they will release a video talking about it. From the response in the other thread they will not even be talking about it on the wan show as Linus has said his part and that is where it will stop which is disappointing to know.

My best bet is they will just let all the hate blow over in a few days, then be back to making more videos like they have always done with little change.

I was just asking what you meant by milking. How do viewers get milked by their upload schedule?

6 videos per week (for LTT main channel), almost all of which include technical or other issues due they having to rush out content without fact checking. It literally the reason why GN made the video in the first place. Kids will watch and consume anything without questioning, the same kids are the main demographic for most of LMGs channels.
