Pairing a AMD GPU with a Intel CPU?

Is there any real downsides to pairing a AMD GPU with a Intel CPU or should you try and pair a AMD GPU with a AMD CPU or does it really not matter much?

Maybe you could find one or two errors but it is really really unlikely, it shouldn't give you any problems

Doesn't matter. Resizeable BAR works on both (the one advertised feature for using AMD CPU and GPU), and performance is fine with both. Any reason you see to use all AMD parts is just marketing, not based on anything substantial.

there might be some benefit with a mb bios setting or an amd optomised game but just a guess.  but it probably just comes down to test was done with amd hard ware more then other's

Never ever (ever) run an AMD GPU paired with an AMD CPU. ATI makes AMD GPU-s, and the only things those have in common are some common issues you will encounter. Like using Intel and Nvidia. The only known working (issue free) setup is having an Intel GPU and and Intel CPU.

 

Now, everything written above is false. Everything works fine with everything, that's why we have standards and guides.

I run a RX 6700 XT and an i5-12400F and it's an awesome combo for AAA gaming.

I read that there's issues with 7900 xt/x cards - if you use an Alder Lake/Raptor Lake cpu build.

Yeah don't really listen to them. You can use AMD GPUs on Intel platform, just like you can use NVIDIA GPUs on AMD platforms.

I sorta meant a link, so I can see the context and supporting information for that claim.

 

But I run a 5600 and 1050Ti build, performs flawlessly.  It was a 1600 + 1050Ti running 24/7 for 3+ years until I replaced the CPU/motherboard this weekend.

 

I haven't run an Intel CPU + AMD GPU though.

I didn't keep the link.... I believe it's a few ppl complaining about how long it takes for their PC to boot - BIOS problems, too.   They claim it's mostly with Z690 and Z790 chipset PC configurations.   Since, I would expect that to posted in other PC forums, maybe it's not that prevalent or just applicable to a few ppl - but, I found it interesting that it was on an official AMD (support?) forum and a few of them sounded pretty angry.  It sounded like they were trying (to fix it) to no avail.

Right, when AM5 came out we ran into Memory Testing on each boot.  It would take 45 seconds to 1 minute for me to reach Windows.  That has since gone away with BIOS updates.

 

It was annoying, but not a show stopper.  There were settings in BIOS to mitigate as well.
