The Coolest PC of All Time

8tg

Gonna document this weird build, the coolest PC of all time in my opinion.

Parts list:

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/HnWbsL

Going with an Asrock N100m micro atx board with the intel N100 on it, putting it into another zzew C2p (which is awful) because i also want to use the case for some other stuff. It will be using a 1tb Samsung 980 nvme ssd, 8gb of ddr4 and an asrock Arc A380.

The board supports resizable bar so it should work mostly fine.

PSU is a corsair RM1000x, the older style, kinda just because it would be funny but also because ive got one sitting around i dont know what to do with. Itll be amusing.

Ill be installing windows on it, playing with asrocks bloatware, and then benching some of its performance metrics against a few other options. Namely an Athlon 5350, and a stand-in laptop for a cheap basic system to see what it can do. Beacuse realistically most N100 systems are a sub 200$ mini pc, so i will compare it to a sub 200$ laptop to see if its worth going with a mini desktop (omitting peripherals) over just a laptop.

Ill keep this updated as i get the parts in and ill document the build process.

Ended up not using the c2p and rm1000x because the psu was a rough fit, I would need a different cable to pass through for the psu power input so screw that

got this inwin case with a psu instead, slim micro atx

also pictured, a 92mm bequiet fan, 1tb Samsung 980, 8gb of ddr4 and the ht omega eclaro sound card

this psu is weird and has no pcie but has an eps 8 pin and a 4 pin labeled incorrectly like it’s 2006, with p4 and p2

itll do fine for my sub 50 watt needs

In fact I’m probably gonna be closer to 20 watts maximum under load here

  • 2 weeks later...

Board arrived, I’m gonna do a little testing first before I put it all together as it’s proper form with the sound card

@Bitter @da na

There will be more details at some point when i swap the OS on this, 11 is too much of a hassle, probably gonna try 10 ltsc

image.thumb.jpeg.3e0446d1f662f50c482fd052ca180dcc.jpeg

It plays csgo in 1080p at near max settings fine, 70-80fps

image.thumb.jpeg.2a5d5e657e6674bb18caf8c07fcea506.jpeg

This is in comparison to its igpu only with randomgamingHD's video showing it struggling in 720p all low for 40-50fps, so getting this out of 1080p with the 3070ti kinda shows the igpu is limiting the cpu

ill do a cinnebench in a second here

Awesome 👍 I think this would be perfect for a rock solid reliable cheap PC out in the shop without any moving parts to gather dust or dirt inside, it's dirty out here! Currently rocking a Haswell i5 and AMD 250 something but there's 4 fans total in the system so dust goes in and collects on everything with air blowing through it. Like 4-6 of those E cores and it's iGPU would power through anything we would throw at it which are Windows updates and web browsing.

Cinnebench shows it as somewhere around what i was expecting, the i5 4570

Better than even coffe lake/refresh 2c/4t pentiums

Fairly impressive for 6 watts

Definitely way above anything core2, this shits on even a Q9650

that's funny, that is near the top of my benchmark chart. Solid for 6w

Shame it's either 2, 4, or 8 cores for the N's, a 6 core would be a great balance between performance and price. 4C4T is OK for now but it'll be getting to be low end soon, 6C6T will linger on a for a bit longer at least. 8C8T though, the 300 and 305, wow. 7W and 15W is pretty amazing.

Pretty much wrapping this up in this state

added a wifi 6 card and a Radeon pro wx 2100

seems to be a pretty well suited gpu for it
