I have a 5800X3D and I am using the Kraken X73 AIO. The pump is at max but the fans, all the fans in the PC, are not very fast as I imagined as long as they are pulling in air it doesn't matter how fast. I have the AIO set to exhaust. My idle temps are 50s-60s with load temps being 80s-90C (it maxes at 90C). Is this normal? I have tried reseating the cooler multiple times and reapplying the thermal paste multiple times. Should I get a new cooler? What could be wrong, if anything?

Requires some tuning using pbo2 Tuner or in bios, but if you are doing a Cinnebench run yes they will get to 85-90c. Kraken coolers arent great, and you have to adjust the fan speeds when doing those tests.

Adjusting the cores to -20 or -25, and PPT to 120, TDC to 80, and EDC to 110, it should bring down thermals a bit and give you a stable clock in games at 4450.

The CPU likes to run hot, the question is... how is the performance?

Can you run Cinebench R23? You should get roughly 14.5k points give or take.

If you get a lot lower score then your temps are an issue as the CPU is throttling, if not then it's fine.

Also you can use Curve Optimizer in PBO in BIOS (if your motherboard BIOS has this feature) to change the frequency/voltage curve.

Simply set a negative offset of -15 or -20 (you can go as low as -30 but it may not be stable. It will give you the best results though if it's stable).

You shouldn't need to touch TDC, PPT or EDC at all.

I got 13.2k in Cinebench R23. am not sure is ASUS ROG has that feature in its BIOS, but I will check. It does have PBO but I didn't see any manual settings I could tweak easily, let alone ones I know what they do.

we need to know;
- What is "load"?  games? a test?

- what is the watt during load? (can be tested with hwinfo54)

also  exhaust on a radiator is  a nice way to makes temps go up, not down

I consider both loads, both reach 90C. I am not sure on the wattage, will switch fans to intake later.

How do I adjust these cores? Would one of those Noctua giant tower coolers be better?

Try looking up your motherboard on a youtube video for trying it in bios. Otherwise you can download PBO2 Tuner and just do it in windows, its what i do.

+1 on using PBO, running -30 on mine and cinebench peaks around 75c, games usually between 40-50c

Fan speed is what really determines cooling capacity. You can try faster fans

I mean like in the simplest answer...kinda sorta yeah... but like
CFM, in/h20, pump speed, fluid capacity, fin density, radiator tube design.
ALL of those factor into cooling.

Beefy cpu, in summertime temps, with slow fans, in whatever case you have, yeah things are going to get toastier. What case is it and how is the AIO and case fans setup? What fan makes and models you using? Whats your ambient temps? Humidity in house too? You sure the pump is moving water in the AIO? IF fans are real slow, the easiest way to solve this is buy a beefy fan controller like a lamptron fc2 and run high rpm fans to it so you can control each fan, or set of fans on each channel, depending on what you are doing and the ambients your pc are exposed to.

if not: 100c+++

Hes damn near there! 😉 It'll take a couple mins probably to see that cause ev en if the water aint moving the rad, the water, the block and pump all got to absorb some heat first to get there....def doent look good for the pump so far though for a triple rad!

hehe

some clogging of the coldpalte is possible, bad mount, or just low fanspeed and exhuast combo, but 90c with a pump that does not spin, thats not possible

I have an X3D. Super easy to cool. Can run no fans on my coolers with X3D installed. I think your cooler is just bad..

Please tell us about your PC system.

I've been using computers since around 1978, started learning programming in 1980 on Apple IIs, started learning about hardware in 1990, ran a BBS from 1990-95, built my first Windows PC around 2000, taught myself malware removal starting in 2005 (also learned on Bleeping Computer), learned web dev starting in 2017, and I think I can fill a thimble with all that knowledge. 😉 I'm not an expert, which is why I keep investigating the answers that others give to try and improve my knowledge, so feel free to double-check the advice I give.

My phone's auto-correct is named Otto Rong.🤪😂

Yes all these things can limit you but IMO with all in ones, the limiting factor is usually the low speed fans that almost all manufacturers use
