So Im sort of confused with Boinc and FoldingAtHome

Currently, i am running both of them, but i  have some questions..

1.For FAH will it automatically switch work units? (Like the place where it says selected work unit) Where can you see how many WU you have?  (will it run forever?)

2. Can someone just explain the points and units thing?

3. For BOINC, is there a way to make it run forever too?

4. Also, how come i only get the tasks for one project when i have 3 projects?

Thanks in advance

1) Yes it will automatically send back the work units when they are done, and I think on the F@H website you can search your identity that you set up(if you set one up) and as long as you have a conntection to the webernets, it will run until something stops it.

2) For every work unit that you complete, you will get points for doing so. More points = MOAR better.

3) can't help you with this one, sorry.

4) do you mean you have 3 slots? as in one CPU and a pair of graphics cards, all folding?

No for 4 I meant I have 3 projects that I added and t is supposed to split the usage between the three. But now I only have active tasks for one project. I hope this made any sense.

Thanks for the help

I think I get what you're saying, however I don't know much about bionic, and what little I understand about F@H is not my strong suit. I think that @WoodenMarker would be someone you should talk to about this.

Actually, more like @Whaler_99

i certainly hope your not running both of them at the same computer, if so they will be struggling to steal resources from eachother, unless you are doing just cpu or gpu on each one.

2. the ammount of points you recieve will vary from work unit to work unit, they differ in size and points they award, with cpu units you get bonus points after a certain ammount of completed work units if you have a passkey setup, this means you get more points the faster you finish the wu, this is not the case with gpu's as they only award a base credit for each wu completed, but the more wu's you complete the more points you get.

3. what do you mean? as in make it run while you are using the computer?, if you go in advanced view and click on the activity tab and set it to always run it will run regardless if the computer is in idle or not, you can also go to tools and edit when you want boinc to be running, run while the pc is in use, time of the day, close when certain applications are running etc etc.

4. boinc is likely to be working on one project at a time, going back to advanced view< tools< editing work preferences, at the bottom of the processor tab i should say that it's supposed to switch between projects every hour by default, you can try to extend it to 5 hours or something like that depending on how many projects you got, alternatively you could just click on stop receiving work units on the project it's currently working so that it will switch over to another project when it's fetching new work units, that means you will have to manage it manually though, which is not really optimal.

lastly i would point you in the direction of these threads

Folding: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1091-for-folding-users-tips-tricks-and-faq-updated-march-2014/

some reading for ya, they could possibly clear some things up.

and @Whaler_99 @alpenwasser are probably the two most obvious go to guys for boinc/folding related matters.

We'll can I run both f I set boinc to 90% CPU? I don't use the PC at all. It's dedicated to folding and boinc

You can - but be aware, if just folding on your GPU, it does hit your CPU a bit, which will impact Boinc. Typically most of us run Boinc or FAH on a individual system, not both... Otherwise, I think everything else is covered...
