I run my case without the side panel ;)

very very far from unique in the techie crowd...

I am a female pc hardware expert and enthusiast, over 170 IQ, been in the tech scene since the 80s. get over it.  This message brought to you by me being tired of people which have problems with any of those things.   ~Jaqie Fox

My Pacifico hat. It covers the cord for my speakers, so I don't need to look at an ugly white cord stick out of my case.

Also, my little Umbreon and Mudkip. My two favorite Pokémon, who guard my Gameboy SP.

Plus I like my Intel stock cooler coaster.

so what temps you getting off that intel cooler?

does it keep the ice from melting? lol awesome coaster I would do that when I get an aftermarket coaster I mean cooler for mine but I'm using AMD and it's a thick square one so I don't think it would look nice lol

My PC has one LED only. It's the power LED and I plan to unplug it the next time I get to tear my system apart.

I don't really play many games for gameplay anymore honestly. I play most games just for the graphics.

Nice build for the budget I am sitting around $230 right now and it does decent in gaming after I am done with mine (with prices the way they are now and if I can get my graphics card used) I'll be around $600 total

that would be my table. the double bed with the bottom bed removed and placed a table. I've been thinking of removing it since I don't sleep on the bed anymore and so does my daughter or wife. Buy some wood and make my own table.

I am pretty sure I am the only person with a Intel 3970X CPU and an AMD HD5450 GPU.

both are from totally different ends of the price spectrum LOL.    (just temporary as I am waiting for 880)

Casually reading your sig, then stumbling upon that 5450........kinda got my attention.

Spoiler

Case Bitfenix Ghost, Mobo Asus Maximus VIII Ranger, CPU i7 6700K @4.2 Ghz cooled by Arctic cooling Freezer i30, (barely). GPU Nvidia GTX 970 Gigabyte G1 @1519Mhz core, RAM 16Gb Crucial Ballistix CL16 @2400Mhz. SSD 128GB Sandisk Ultra Plus as my OS drive. HDD's  1TB  Seagate ST31000524AS its OEM, 3TB Seagate Barracuda, 2x 500GB WDC Blue (RAID 0)

Now what about motherboards like this Asus one, that are built to have more that one GPU, not necessarily to run in Crossfire or SLI, but for rendering or doing compute tasks, would you do that? Or stick with one strong card, even in a production environment?

I only build gaming and home theater PCs, but I imagine I'd make an exception for a workstation.

1. To an extent. Agreed.

2. Well, unless they have terrible build quality and cable routing, yes, no one likes flimsy plastic.

3. +1

4. Finally someone who thinks the way I do. Not buying -K in hopes of getting a golden CPU, instead just to leave that option open.

5. Yeah. Liquid requires too much maintenance and checkup.

6. No more than 16GB ram, unless someone actually needs it.

7. Depends. FM2+ and Haswell both like 1866 RAM, the former needing frequency more than timings. But yeah, minimal differences most cases.

8. +1000. Plus there's no upgrade path if you fill all the slots.

9. Single GPU > Dual GPU unless drivers show us otherwise.

10. +1. I don't see why anyone needs RAID unless they actually move extremely large files on an extremely regular basis. Even then it doesn't make sense, the drive is still getting a lot of writes and less endurance.

11. RAPID mode doesn't really affect stability; I think that's TurboWrite and RAPID combined that does that.

12. Do you not get coil whine on RM? A lot of users do.

13. 80+ GOLD MASTER RACE

14. Me too. Couldn't agree more. Half the "silent" products on the market I find too loud.

15. White always #1. Ensures that it looks good with any component, in both pics and real life.

17. Can't seem to understand the craze over 2ms $250+ TN panels these days; IPS panels are good enough for most.

18. I think you'll like Das Keyboard's stuff. Now that's what a professional uses.

I don't get coil whine from my RM units, but I've found it depends on the other hardware in the system as well; for example my Seasonic 660XP2 causes coil whine when paired with my Gigabyte Z87X-UD5H but not with my wife's Asus motherboard. As for Das Keyboard, I dislike their glossiness and I do like backlighting a lot (as long as it's white).
