URGENT!! need assistance

Nior2008

Seeking help in looking for non-smart watch with blood pressure and heart rate, for my grandfather.

He still use non-smart phone so I need to help my parents find a non-smart watch with blood pressure monitoring urgently. He just had a heart-attack doctors say to watch his blood pressure 24/7, and he doesn't know how to operate a smartwatch or smartphone. We went to local shops but found none. Please help willing to pay extra even expensive to order overseas. 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Yeah, have the doctor write a script for what he needs and take it to the medical supplies store or a pharmacy and they will come up with one.😉 Plus the cost will be covered by his insurance too. If the doctor is telling you he needs it then have him put it on paper.

As the other mentioned ask the doctor, there are several options available from medical suppliers that are covered under the medical insurance.

Asking this forum is not the best move as we are not able to give medical advice and could give you information contradicting what his doctor requires.

Contact the doctor, they should have already provided this information to you.

So grab any of them and try them out.  Honestly, there isn't much in the way of a non-smart watch that can do smart things.  It's just how these things are made to work.

Without him being on a monitoring machine like old school, what can you do?

Check his blood pressure the old way, with the cuff, every hour?  We do what needs doing, even if it's inconvenient for us.

it's less about the doctor knowing what (not) smart watch to get, and moreso what anything they recommend to keep and eye on his blood pressure 24/7. There would be devices that have existed before smart watches were even a thing that would have been used in these circumstances.

Maybe gramps can not play chess for a little while?

The so called "tool" to watch him 24/7 isn't covered by insurance, and it cost 400++ a month my family isn't rich as you maybe.

While we appreciate you wanting to help your grandfather, he needs to help himself too.  There are very cheap and easy ways to check blood pressure...

Amazon.com : blood pressure

You can stop mouthing off to us, since we're trying to help you.  You and your family have some very OBVIOUS behaviors they can manage to get this worked on.

I'll look over your attitude due to being young, but also it's not all on you to fix this.  Your family as a whole needs to work together, however that may be.

It may not be as dire as you make it seem, since grandfather is still playing chess and living his life.

Why not talk to your family and get everything straight before moving forward?

I can already say that any non-smart sports watch will not have as accurate hearth rate monitoring as the smart ones. Traditionally, most accurate results have been from waist bands or arm bands. But there are the cheap sport watches which are what I think you are after. Since anything more expensive would come with assumption of having or needing bluetooth. Looking at just Amazon listings, for what I paid for my dumb-sport watch, you have options. Ofc since those are of the "cheap" category, there aren't going to be any actual reviews on them. Just having to trust Amazon reviews.

And if you wanted to know, I bought mine from Lidl and it was their housebrand, Crivit.

As was said by others, ask the doctor if there are  any recommended ones.

From what I have experienced especially for blood pressure watches are in no way accurate enough for medical purposes (again ask your doctor).  At least the one my dad tried though compared to one of the actual arm inflating one was  wildly off compared to it.  So definitely ask the doctor, as you do not want a situation where you are giving the doctor information potentially without the doctor knowing that the accuracy of those results might be skewed (can lead to wrong diagnosis's)

That has been my experience as well.
Galaxy Watch5 requires calibration every 28 days ( using a standard upper arm cuff BP monitor simultaneously with the watch, 3 times and inputting the readings from the BP monitor into the watch), and even then I wouldn't trust the results.
Not to mention it struggles a lot when an elderly person wears it, 7/10 times it just can't take the measurement.

@Nior2008  Your grandpa probably needs ABPM (Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitor). It is a big unit with an arm cuff, it takes measurements every xx minutes.
The ones that are on the approved list of medical devices in your country are probably gonna be expensive.
That being said, there some old (and probably of questionable quality) models for about 150$ on Amazon (to download data you need to plug it into a computer via USB)... Like this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072J37JH1
I'm pretty sure those cheap ones aren't certified. It sure would beat any smart / non-smart watch in terms of how accurate it is... but still, can you trust the results?

Anyhow, like others have mentioned already: ask the doctor which device your grandpa should use.
