what is available spare ? NVME adata SX6000PNP 512 gb bad condition

Ucan_101
Go to solution Solved by kokosnh,

It’s already bad, as the nand shouldn’t fail on this life cycle of ssd.  when the spare reaches 0, it will have to decrease the capacity of the drive, when the nand dies.

and I did look on other SX6000PNP S.M.A.R.T. and it seems, that there are 64 (hex) so 100 ( dec ) spares in the beginning. So it was’t one, but 69 already. I really should have check S.M.A.R.T.  earlier, and not to just guess the numbers.   It is still the raw numbers of spare nand blocks, just the starting value was higher.

you can change the CDI display of raw data from hex to dec to see it more clearly.

So i have checked my ssd after a year, and it shows like this. I dont know what is available spare, what if i just ignore it, and is it crucial to change ssd right away? I immediately try putting my whole important document to my hdd drive and it went fine.

They're spare blocks the SSD can use if it detects existing blocks are going bad. The value is 1F, which is lower than the warning threshold of 20 hence the warning sign. If the value is continuing to decrease that would be a concern.

Do Adata provide their own SSD utility? If so, download that and see what it says.

When you mean decreasing, does it means like 0,5F ? so as long as it doesnt go to 020 its perfectly safe to ignore ?

Try doing diagnostic scan and see if it encounters errors.

My Samsung SATA SSD was like that awhile ago, decreasing health rapidly in HD Sentinel, looks okay in Samsung Magician, but encounters errors when doing both short & long tests.

I ended up RMA-ing since it was still in warranty

Pretty sure the value you see in CrystalDiskInfo is in HEX (HEXADECIMAL). 1F in HEX = 31 in DEC (DECIMAL) . Meaning it's at 31% right now.

You can easily do this conversion using online HEX to DEC converter, or Windows Calculator in Programmers mode.

Here's my CrystalDiskInfo .  64 in HEX = 100 in DEC

I have tried full diagnostic scan, nothing happen after 100%. when scanning the ssd usage become 100% in task manager and get a bit laggy. But after 100% nothing really happen, nothing shows up, the health of ssd in the adata drive information is still healthy, but on crystaldisk its still said bad with 1f.

also, since 1f means 31% is it means the health only 31% left  right now ? or it means it would need to be 3f so it will be harmfull because its 93%?

I’m pretty sure that it’s just raw Numbers of spear blocks.
the starting value is probably 32 (dec) so 20 (hex), it was 100 (dec) so 64 (hex)

the warning is there, because one of the NAND block did fail, and that it could indicate data loss, or eminent NAND failure.

Sorry, i still dont get it how to count it. So should i ignore it ? Ive been using with this condition and i dont see any of my files are lost. But still confuse whenever i should buy a new one or claim warranty because i saw on the internet it has 3 years warranty ( but that would mean months of waiting proably )

It was 32(dec) 100 (dec) now it’s 31(dec), so one some NAND block failed, and was swapped out for the spare one. the ssd is working, but that indicates that the small portion of NAND did fail, way before the TBW of the SSD.

I would try to RMA it, and see what they will do ( if you can afford to wait without it )

I don't know how the warranty / RMA works in your country, so I can't give you any advice.

sorry this should have become the solution already, but can i know where do you check other adatasx6000pnp ssd s.m.a.r.t on? Im still using the same ssd right now, and the available spare become 1C instead of 1F.

It’s all good, your SSD is dying💀 the older version, just isn't as good to catch it

copy the data, and buy better ssd next time.
rma it, with the intent of getting money back ( as you don't want ssd that NAND is just dying ).

1F (hex) = 31 (dec)

1C (hex) = 28 (dec)

so 3 NAND blocks died since last check.Ps. You can change in the setting, for it to show all raw values in dec instead of hex ( they are more readable that way).

But i thought that was a good one, it got proper review both youtube and google, my friend use the older version and still using since 3 years ago. F im not lucky

It is still the raw numbers of spare nand blocks, just the starting value was higher.

you can change the CDI display of raw data from hex to dec to see it more clearly.

and can i know what is this ? my friend tried to test his ssd and his available spare threshold is less than the available spare

Yes, The threshold is just there, to give the warning.

And because they don't use the standard SMART table, with current, worst, and threshold values, so they did in in two separate SMART RAW values... don't ask me why, I have no idea...

He have 64 (hex) = 100 (dec) so all of factory Available Spare, and his Available Spare Threshold is A (hex) = 10 (dec) (in the 128GB version)

So the warning for his SSD, will show up later, when 90 of the Available Spare NAND blocks die. I don't know why they did it that way, don't ask me...

in your version, you have 20 (hex) = 32 (dec) and you are below the threshold, soo backup your data, buy new SSD, and RMA that one...

I would RMA it if even one NAND block would FAIL below TBW...

oh i c, so my friends available spare threshold is only meaning it will show warning after the available spare is less than 10. Thanks this clears up my confusion. Also mine is adata sx6000pro. Still doesnt deny its not great but i saw on linus tech ssd tier list it was on budget list, better than okayish. Also which one will you recommend ? My budget is $68 USD or Rp 1000.000 ( one million rupiah from indonesia ). I got recommended by local store a vgen hyper 1tb or transcend 110s 512 gb

I'd go for Transcend 220S than 110S, at the very least 220s have DRAM. Tier C if we are to use this forum's SSD tier list.

Should be like around 900k ish Rp for 1tb. Somehow feels like that store you mentioned trying to flip you some old unsold stock :x

Here's a CrystalDiskmark from the one in my brother's laptop (2TB Version)

Bought from Redcomp @ Tokped if you need a store name

image.png.a13e1fb0fd69400239eeec2535c203c1.png

There's also SX8200 Pro , used it for like 3 years in my personal PC without problem.

There should be lots of review out there for this one.

Price between the two I mentioned shouldn't be too much different.

Just letting you know the one I am using just in case the info is needed (since same country)

Maybe there's others who are more knowledgeable about products and want to chime in.

There is approximately 99% chance I edited my post

Yes, i also feel they are trying to sell me the unsold stock. I really want to buy online but i dont wanna have the same problem again.

I saw both of that too, hoping my local store sell anything better but nope, only that vgen hyper and transcend 110s

My city has a kind of strict policy with big tax when exporting stuff to other city. So i was thinking better go buy on local than so i wont have to think twice about claiming warranty

What city if I may know? feel free to send it using PM if you are uncomfortable with typing it here for everybody to see.
If you prefer not saying at all, that's fine as well.

Ah yeah, Samsung Store here never sells NVME. Even in Jakarta.

They delegate it to Indonesia Distributor for Samsung SSD.

Their customer service page on their website doesn't even list SSD as an option.
