Any solvent will work.

Petrol and nail varnish remover will work.

The cloth you use wont even make a difference. I dont know why everyone tries to make a big deal about removing thermal paste.

I usually just wipe it off with a paper towl. If there's any left after that, then bring in the alcohol. The reason 90% isopropyl is generally recommended is because it dries almost instantly. If you use anything else, I'd recommend letting it dry for awhile before powering up the system.

i work at an electronics store so i get 99% pure anhydrous alchohol, which is "ideal" but honestly anybody over 50% is perfectly fine just let it dry

50% should be fine, but let the board sit for a while just in case. I use 95% and it dries in about 10 seconds.

Use anything you'd like, toilet paper, paper towel, microfiber, coffee filter, as long as it doesn't have crazy lint. That means Kleenex isn't ideal, but I've done it before and no big deal.

Half of the time I take an old shirt that doesn't fit and cut it up, then just wipe the shit off while it's still in the socket.
