So im building a new rig and was wondering if its worth spending the money and getting a decent GPU in this case its the EVGA gtx 770 classified 4gb

OR

getting slightly cheaper gpu's and running SLI?

will there be any benifits from running SLI config If i plan on using the GPU to help with 3d work and rendering ASWELL as gaming.

if you can grab a r9 290 non reference for a little lower like say 15-20 bucks than the 770 4gb I'd say grab it.

I don't really see a point on putting sli on 2 weaker gpu tbh.

but hey your choice.

if you were to sli something like the 760 it's pretty decent I say but if you will sli it just do it right on the spot as in most cases people say they will sli but in the end never do and just buy the new generation cards.

pretty much all the same on average whether you sli or not. but imo grab the best single card right now and only sli it if you're gonna do it in this pay check or the next. if you're not sure just don't sli.

Live your life like a dream.

General consensus is get the highest end single card you can!!

Not all games scale well with SLI - some games you may be getting great performance, but for games that do not use SLI well, you will get worse performance than the single better card

Also sli lower cards normally dont always beat the more expensive single card by much. (plus more heat, more power draw, more space taken up etc etc etc)

Also means you can SLI the 770 in a few months when the prices drop really low :)

Get the best single gpu you can at that time the pricing usually means that buying for example two 760s will give you similar performance to a 780 and cost about the same too so theres no upside to buying two 760s straight away.

But bbuying the more powerful card means that  later on when prices have dropped you can pick up a second to prolong the life of your system.

In most cases no. the only time its worth running sli is when your running a high powered gpu to start with and still for whatever reason need more power. im guessing youll be at 1080p which the 770 will do just fine however i would not get the 4gb version, the 770 is not a strong enough gpu to actually use the 4gb vram.

Don't get the 4GB 770, it's a waste. Either save the money and get the 2GB model, or an r9 290.

Ok wow glad I posted on here. Was just about to research into the 770 but won't have to now thank to you guys :)

Can you's recommend and decent 780 models?

I have the Asus 780 (non-ti) and it's silent as hell, and gives me ~95fps average on ultra in bf4, and it never exceeds  the 37% fan speed (yet) :D

Personally, if I were in your position I'd get the more expensive card and add a second card of the same model for a performance boost once the prices drop far enough to make it cost-effective.

Otherwise I'd say SLI all the way if it wasn't for the fact that you might find yourself wanting to run a game that doesn't work well with SLI.

If you're buying to play one game almost exclusively then check to see how well it runs with SLI and/or the graphics card you're thinking about purchasing. I'm not sure if it's still true but some games used to run better with specific graphics cards, so if you wanted to just mainly play that one game it was better to get the card it worked most efficiently with.

For example if you're going to spend ninety percent of the time you spend on the P.C. playing Eve, or Star Citizen, or Elder Scrolls Online, or something similar, run some searches to find out if there's a particular advantage to buying a particular card. Maybe look at benchmark tests etc.

The majority of 3d renderers don't take advantage of multiple gpus.

I would say it is a waste of money to buy a gtx 780 as of this moment,

Let me explain why,

I have gtx 760 sli which performs far better then single gtx 780/780 ti

Check out this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfOtmoxLMXI

If you sli your 770 now you will far better performance then a single 780

And if you get a 780 instead and thinking of to sli that later we will be same situation as you are in right now.

Get another 770, play with sli for 2 years or so and then get a gtx 8XX series instead.

Its not a good idea to upgrade to the very next generation gpu, (more true for cpu upgrade.. ) keep what have now (or even sli it) then go for gpu which is 2-3 generations newer to get some real noticeable performance.

think of it this way :-

if you get 770 sli and play with for 2 years, you will be getting better performance then single 780/780 ti for 2 years

If you get a gtx 780/780 ti, you will get less performance then gtx 770 sli for two years, (unless you sli the 780 right away)

And after two years  you simply can get a 8xx or higher series gpu :)

I never had any issues running games in sli.

Unless you are worried about power consumption.

Get the R9 290, the 4GB GTX770 is a huge scam.

4GB 770? don't bother.

SLi works great and will always look better than one GPU. Also i get 85-100% scaling in games like BF4. Also i already had a single 660 to begin with so hence the SLI option.

R9 290 or a 2GB 770.

also the very latest GPU isn't always the best. See the GTX 590 kerb stomps the GTX 680 and what not.
