Where are the used GPUs?

I won't sugarcoat it. Where the fuck are the thousands of gpus hoarded by miners in the last 2 years? Mining stopped being profitable in summer. The merge happened in september. It's november and I still don't see hundreds of gpus selling for pocket change. I don't see the hundreds of gpus selling at all.

mmm you can mine stuff but nothing really profitable with the rising energy costs, so I'm wondering as well

ETH hasn't been profitable since summer if you take into account energy costs.

I have a friend who has a mining rig with 6 cards in it, he just holds on to it in the hope energy costs get better.

 

Also, take into consideration that there are people that mine on their own clean energy sorces such as solar.

My uneducated guess? They are being held on to in hopes a new coin comes around that can be mined on GPUs.

Not really probable, mining has proven to be wasteful and noone will dare relaunching it

Can you really blame somebody who has made good profit off of it already? - I personally dont think so.

Might be a combination of factors:

Mining scale in a given region is not a known quantity. It may be less prevalent in your area hence not so many used GPUs showing up.

Miners may be speculating on the next big thing even if not profitable right now

If I had a pile of graphics cards, I'd sell them slowly to avoid flooding the market, and get more money per card.

 

The used market is also driven very much by your specific area. If there aren't miners in your region selling their cards, you'll have a harder time finding used mining cards.

Ebay is loaded. Other places too. Many sold in bulk or as part of a rig.

 

The ones hoarding were not single card users for the most part, so they won't have much to part with.

Crazy concept but GPUs can be used for things outside of gaming and mining. Also there are still many algorithms that support GPU mining, while not as lucrative, with some decent prep work you can still make money.
