Best free external backup software?

Since my spare motherboard for a NAS boota depending on its mood and Windows is absolute garbage in terms of backip features, what would be deemed a good alternative for quick backup in an external drive?

Yeah, pretty much this. Unless you need entire OS image backup for some reason. Although I would personally use robocopy, as it's better for large copies with a lot of files and has tons of useful features to keep the backup up-to-date.
You use it via windows command line:

just program it with a simple batch file.

COPY "PathA" "PathB"

i.e : COPY "C:\Folder1\" "E:\Backup\Folder1"
