Recovery options for portable USB Harddrive

Go to solution Solved by Coolmaster,

Losing the master file table is very bad, basically the hard drive doesn't know what files the parts of the hard drive represent, they're basically random 1s and 0s without it. You'd need a specialised data recovery company to get your data back.

I have a 1.5Tb portable usb hard drive that I use to store photos and other work on. I went to use it today and it was unable to mount. It turns out it has a corrupt master file table. I did some looking online, but it seems like every article that offers a solution is just trying to market their own product. I was wondering if anyone on here has had success recovering data from a drive with a corrupt master file table. If you have, what programs did you end up using?
