how to do certain things in Excel (newbie question)

I have downloaded an Excel attendance summary template, where if you key in V inside a single cell, it will change color according to the fx function on top.

I do not know how to set it up so that my excel worksheet can do the same. 

 

Could someone tell me how to achieve this??

Conditional formatting will let you dynamically set the color of the cell (both background and text) depending on its value.
