First Home Server, Build Check

Hi all, I am planning to build my first home server. I plan to use parts from my old gaming pc. Should I get 2x4 TB drives and configure a mirror or RAID0 or should I get 4x 2TB drives and use a different config? Also should I go with WD Red Plus(SMR) or Seagate Ironwolf?

 

I will install TrueNas on it and host a plex server, will run some docker containers too.

 

Specs:

CPU: i5-6600

Motherboard: MSI Z170-A PC Mate

RAM: Kingston HyperX 2x8Gb 16GB DDR4 RAM

PSU: Corsair RM650 2019

OS: Corsair 128GB SSD SLC

 

I am open to  suggestions. Thanks!

Id probably get a single 8tb drive, then you can add more later. More reliable than a raid 0 or 2 tb drives.

 

Id avid smr drives.

Just remember, truenas is not “easy” to add storage to a vdev after the fact. I would go on the truenas forums and read all of their pinned “new user” and “hardware guide” type threads to get a better idea of what is right for you and your use case.
