Uh oh... he started a console war thread... on a pc tech forum....

Really doesn't matter as the people you will be playing will have the same specs as you, so there are no real advantages. You can't play against xbox one players on a ps4 and vice versa. The only real difference would be when you are doing something independent like movie watching, in which you won't notice any difference from the xbox one and ps4.

Just get what your friends have. Or a pc..

Should put this in console section but I'm a Xbox fanboy over Playstation. I think the One has a better chance to have a better run. Sure it has a higher price but it has Kinect  included. And (personally) a better lineup of games. Plus, you can do a bunch more stuff than just play games. There's moves, tv, apps, and stuff are fun on it.

Pick whichever console based on which exclusive titles you want more.

IMO Sony gets better exclusives, and many of the games on Xbox are on PC master race anyway

so far my favorite console has been PS2 on my PC.

Why limit yourself.

I wouldn't say the PS4 is "much" better, but there is a arguable percentile differential involved.
But you're right the PS4 is cheaper. although not that much cheaper for some countries. $50 difference for me.
i still don't understand why M$ hasn't released a Xbone without kinect. I don't use it and I am sure many other wouldn't either.

Why just get one console, get all of them. Then you can play your halo, uncharted and Mario Kart. problem solved. Why limit yourself.

Depending on the titles I want is how I choose my consoles.. usually the only defining factor.

Resolution @ 720p+(900p) up to 1080p in the lounge room isn't a huge factor for me..

The larger TV you have the more you tend to sit back from it, 3ft to 10ft, and some visual anomalies (jaggies) are less apparent, and the experience isn't too far different between xbox and ps4 in that regard.

I know the larger the TV the more blurry a low res source is, but games are generally fast paced, interactive

and cluttered,..its less noticible of an annoyance when your busy busy busy doing things, compared to "only watching" TV/Video.

Nitpicking can get you Pro's and Con's from both consoles, but overall whatever you choose in the end, will bring many happiness and such bliss.

I have both older consoles for party games and guests, but their still hardly used by myself or immediate family, yet they both fit the use case for my needs, the hour at night your tired as hell, a little racing or platformer game laying down is great fun,. When price drops happen (in years or so) I'll grab both of these new ones.

Clarification - I do love lounging around playing all types of games with a controller, more than sitting in a chair from a "comfort" aspect, but I do love my Keyb/Mouse precision accuracy more when playing games that I think absolutely require it (FPS titles) and won't play them ever with a controller. 90% PC, 10% Console (varies when new game releases happen of course)

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

I've never been a fan of Sony exclusives. It could be of the little time I've played them. For example, I have only reached the part of Uncharted 3 after you escape the mansion (when you have to get into the castle(?)). I'm not interested in The Last of Us. I might be picking up a copy of GranTurismo 6 because of the car selection. So far, the only exclusives that I'm interested in are inFamous and Ratchet and Clank. The Order looks interesting from the gameplay that I've seen. The new IP's of Microsoft are really interesting IMO, Sunset Overdrive seems like a lot of fun, and Quantum Break (although my hopes are't high, as a video game/ TV show hybrid didn't really go well the last time, Defiance.). I'm interested in the new exclusives at E3 from Sony, hopefully they'll interest me.

  • 2 weeks later...

Enough with the performance. Who cares!

-> If you want the best graphics, get a PC. You can get a really nice GeForce 750Ti for 150$. In many cases a non-gaming computer is fine, just get a 150$ GPU like the one suggested, and you'll br gaming really well.

-> Console comes down to exclusive and features. PS4 is a safe console that is gaming focused. Same controller as ever (pretty much), not much media features, just the basics, and it plays games.

The XBox One while not as powerful as the PS4, but close, does offer unique TV features, which might interest you.

The WiiU will get you a unique gaming experience you can't get anywhere else, and the wide library of Nintendo exclusives which many will argue that it is worth getting the console just for them, as they are all (excluding spinoffs) AAA titles.

Another deciding factor, is game exclusive. The number of exclusive is not important if you don't like these games. Which games YOU want to play.

Don't go with what other people buy, go with what YOU will enjoy. Because if you don't, then the console will collect dust, no mater how many great games it will have. If it's not your kind of games, then forget it.

I got a WiiU. Yea, that console, and I am not embarrassed. I am having a serious blast. In fact, I had to much fun, I ran out the next day and bought 3 other games. That is 3x 60$ in one shot. But that is ME. Some people don't like these types of games. Teens usually don't like many Nintendo games, because of their looks, they see it as childish, and usually for most teens, they try to dissociate themselves to anything that could be seen as childish (peer pressure is also a factor), but as adult, well you don't care. That is my opinion, based on my view when I was a kid which I didn't really realize until I became adult. Anyway.

Pick what you will enjoy, not the best graphics, is all I am suggesting.

Best answer. If you buy a console based off "performance" you could end up making the wrong decision for you.

For me it was a toss up mainly because of exclusives. Xbox is supposed to announce the revival of many exclusive titles at E3, and new IP's.... as is Sony with the PS4. You just have to decide which exclusives are most important to you.

PS4 is better power-wise, but so far the X1 has had the better games in my opinion. PS4 has had a lot of hype behind it but little substance.

I'll end up getting the PS4 when the software justifies it, but so far have been satisfied with the Xbox One.

If you're a PC gamer then power shouldn't be that big an issue. If you want power and the latest big AAA mutli-platform game to be shiny then get it on PC. It comes down to exclusives, here's a list of the current top five ranking exclusives on each platform....

PS4:

- Flower

- Sound Shapes

- Resogun

- inFamous: Second Son

- Killzone: Shadow Fall

XBOne:

- Forza 5

- Dead Rising 3

- Peggle 2

- Killer Instinct

- XBox Fitness

Wii U:

- Super Mario 3D World

- Zelda: Wind Waker HD

- Pikmin 3

- New Super Mario Bros U

- Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze

Look at those lists and consider the games that might jump in like Halo, Smash Bros or Driveclub. Pick the list which appeals to you the most. That's the console you should get.

I know how ps4 is much better at a lower price but I mean is Xbox that much worse. Also not really in the market for them but if I was forced I would like to have made a decision.

Hardware wise, they are essentially the same. The only difference being that PS4 uses GDDR-5 memory and Xbox One uses DDR3. Both use the same AMD 8-core Jaguar APU, both have 8GBs of RAM, Both have 500GB hard drives.

Also, Microsoft recently announced that Xbox One will have a console for $399 without a kinect device. so now the price is even.

There are more differences than that. Although mostly similar, the PlayStation 4's GPU has 18 compute units in comparison to the Xbox One's 12. Peak performance rating of 1.84 TFLOPS compared to the Xbox One's 1.31 TFLOPS. The difference is substantial enough that it has already resulted in noticeable differences between games on both platforms. For example, Watch Dogs will be running at a higher resolution on the PS4 than on the Xbox One. As developers start to figure out how to better work with the limited pool of ESRAM available and as DirectX 12 becomes utilised then we may see the difference between games on both platforms lessen hopefully.

However, @GoodBytes put it quite well. The important thing about a console is not its technical specifications or raw computational power but rather its feature set, exclusive titles and the experiences that the console and its online service provide. The hardware is just a tool to achieve these, with more powerful hardware making it easier to do so. Time alone will tell if this new generation of consoles are good, I think. :)

Beat me to it, was just going to post something similar.

PS4 will always beat Xbox One in cross platform games - you can't change the fact that that PS4 has a better GPU -  just like 360 always beat PS3, but this time the margin is a bit wider.

But, just like PS3 was able to produce beautiful exclusives build around its limitations, Xbox One will have some gorgeous first party exclusives and exclusives are the reason you buy consoles.

These consoles are £350, £400 machines released into a gaming market where many people have gaming PCs worth £1,000-£2,000. They were never going to be state of the art and at the price no one should expect them to be.
