Is it worth going from a 60hz monitor to something higher?

I recently had one of my 60hz spectre monitors go bad on me. I looking to get a new one, but don't know if the increase in price is worth with a bigger hz option. 

 

If so does anyone have any recommendations? I'm trying not spend over $200.

This is a subjective matter.

 

For gaming, most people would say yes. Especially if you play real-time online games competitively.

Depends on what you're doing:

If it's your main screen?  Yes, you want to have well over 60hz, especially for gaming.  Getting a 144+ with Freesync / GSync is absolutely worth it.

 

If it's a side monitor that runs Discord?  No, it's not worth it.

I'd recommend higher refresh rate surely. For gaming at least.

After gaming on 60Hz my whole life, when I decided to upgrade to update to a 144Hz monitor which made a pretty huge difference to me.

Even without gaming, just general scrolling was a crazy difference (I went from 60 to 180Hz). The smoothness is a lovely feeling, I won't ever go back.

Personally I've found a refresh rate higher than 60 to be worth it for all screens from desktop monitors to phones. While the extra frames feel great in games, the place I think it makes the biggest difference is scrolling. I spend most of any given day scrolling around files for my job, and smoother scrolling feels easier on my eyes.

 

That said, I'm lucky enough to be in a position where the extra money for a high refresh rate screen isn't a huge deal. If you've got the option to go and see a high refresh rate screen in person, say at an electronics retailer or a friend's setup, you can try it for yourself and see if any difference you see is one you'd be willing to pay for.

If this is your primary display and its only 1080p, a 144Hz option under $200 is easy. Even if you don't play games, just moving a window around on a >60Hz display feels so much better.

I got a 144hz monitor recently and honestly it's not as big of a difference as I would have thought. If you're getting a new monitor anyway it's probably worth it though, since they're generally not a great deal more if you're looking to get a decent IPS/VA monitor anyway.

Absolutely IMO. Not only gaming but Windows environment also give you smoother experience especially on Windows animation.

it is worth it, but depending on what its used for then dont spend too much. 

 

I've got a 4k 60hz tv, but i wanted a gaming monitor, so picked up an MSI Optix G24C6 curved  which is a 144hz 1080 screen.  now i dont have a computer that can do 120hz or either 4k with 60 fps, but i did buy it to use with the Series S which does hit 120 which does it very well.  A 120-144hz screen is still nice to have even if you cant hit 120-144.  im in the uk, so it cost me £129, i wouldnt pay more than that unless i had the hardware to match, just because it would seem money wasted.
